I played a character named "Elma" in a play. I thought it was a rather silly name (especially since the last name was "Duckworth"; ugh), so of course my boyfriend (now dh) and others started calling me Elma wherever we went. Then they find out I like Elmo, the muppet, (I can't help it, I think his voice is cute) so they changed it to Elmo.
I'm hanging out at a friends house a year or so later, and there is this friend of a friend there. He's about 15, and a jerk. I'm 20 at the time, so he's trying to get some attention from me by, well, being a jerk (because that works so well, you know
) So he says "Why do they call you Elmo??? Elmo is a BOY'S NAME!" Oh, brother. So, I fire back at him "Fine. Then you can just call me Lady Elmo." Holy crap, did it stick. If I had just left it alone, Elmo probably would have died out on its own. But Lady Elmo has been my screen name ever since. It was my gaming name, when I did that kind of thing. (ah the years before kids). Except when I was feeling b*tchy, then I used "THE DARK ELMO" (insert creepy music here). :LOL My DH still calls me that when he thinks I've gone off the deep end.
Oh, and I went to use it as a username on yahoo for an email account, and SOMEBODY ALREADY HAD IT!!! So, I added a 1 and just got used to it that way.
