I've been lurking and posting infrequently for quite a while now, but never got around to doing an introduction. So here goes-
My name is Jes. Yes, that's my whole name. I am 28 years old. I have one child- a daughter- who is 10 months old. Her name is Cassie. I am married to a great guy. We have been married for almost 3 years. We live in Durham, North Carolina. We are not "real" southerners. I am originally from a city just outside of Pittsburgh, PA and my dh is from Buffalo, NY. We met while I was living in Buffalo briefly and moved down here together a few years before we were married. We have three cats and one very old hamster.
Hmmm.... what else?....
I found this website while looking for info about cloth diapers and I loved it right away. I had never heard of the Mothering magazine either, but found it after discovering the website. I already had several of Dr. Sears' books, which I was reading along with the more mainstream parenting books. ("What To Expect", etc.) The AP approach felt more "right" to my dh and I.
I expected to breastfeed my baby exclusively, but because of a very difficult start and genuine supply issues, I have had to supplement. I have taken all the herbs, pumped until it hurt, and consulted all the LCs and experts. I am able to breastfeed my daughter about 50% of her needed milk, with the help of fenugreek and domperidone. It has taken me a very long time to come to terms with the situation. I hope to do better with future children. For now, my dd can have whatever she can get and comfort nurse for as long as she'd like.
Our family eats mostly organic or local food and we try very hard to adhere to as natural a lifestyle as we can while living in an apartment amongst urban sprawl. It is our dream to one day, hopefully sooner than later, buy some land of our own in the Ozarks and start up a family farm. We want goats, chickens, bees and maybe a donkey....
: We are working hard to pay off all of our debt and get to a place in our lives where we can do this.
I have always wanted to be a SAHM and so far, I have been able to do so. We plan to homeschool our dd and any future siblings, so it looks like I will be able to continue on like this for a long while.
Fun facts about me:
I like animals, camping, reading, anthropology, cooking, baking, drawing and crafting. I collect giraffe stuff, Sanrio stuff and asian lucky cats. My dh and I love anime. We even go to conventions occasionally. I am a BIG Harry Potter fan. My favorite number is 13. One of my hobbies is tie dye. My favorite thing to dye is baby clothes.
I love music. I like many different kinds. I used to be one of those punk/goth kids. I still have pictures.
I used to be a big people person, but have somehow become kind of shy in the past few years. I don't know why.
