Hi!
I am so excited to be here. I have been reading Mothering for almost 20 years (starting as a teen!) and only found out about these forums a month ago!

My daughter is almost 11, and we live with my husband Randy on Pender Island in British Columbia. Bliss, in other words. Right on the water, hardly any traffic, (and no traffic lights), wildlife out our front door...it's a great place to raise Sidra.

We moved from Seattle three years ago - and her dad is still there - and although it was hard to leave our cohousing community, both of us really feel like the island is our home.

Is there a thread about stepfamily issues? We have those a bit.

So, I'm off to 'perooze' around the different topics now!

Wow! Thanks for the link! I just saw the thread when I checked to see if anyone had replied to my thread here....lol.

So... where is parksville? Being a relatively new Canadian (well, permanant resident - citizenship next year!) I don't always know the location of places!

Have you been to Pender?

Ok, so you are on the "big island!"

I will check out the tribes thread as well, thanks.

New question: What are all the abbrieviations? DD, DS, DH, etc...I know they are referring to spouses/partners and kids...but what do the letters stand for?

LOL LOL thank you!!! :

YOU LIKE FIREFLY??? I haven't even met anyone else who ever watched it!

Did you see it when it aired, or on dvd? I found out that the network aired the episodes out of order, and didn't air three of them at all. I watched them from the dvd season (my hubby...err..DH collects dvd's and we have all the seasons of buffy and angel too - big Joss fans.) and I think it would be a bit disappointing to not watch them in order.

Are you a buffy/angel fan at all? Took me a long time to get past the name "buffy" but once I did, and again, watching them in order, I have come to believe that creator Joss Whedon is a genius.

In love with Dh since 1998. We created Ds (7.1.03), Dd (10.16.06) and Dd (3.16.09).

Thanks, Creston sucks, nothing here, mostly old people, have to go out of town to do any decent shopping with out getting ripped off. This spring we are putting our house up for sale, and moving back to Cranbrook. We can't wait.

Hi! I just visited SaltSpring last month for the first time. The way the ferries run, it isn't an easy trip. This direction anyway. I know some folks (My DD's teacher for one) that commute.

I agree, small island life is the BEST!

And thanks for all the warm welcomes from so many of you!

Sorry to hear it's not working for you. But I'm excited with you that you'll be moving to a better place!

Welcome I grew up on the Island (the big one) and spent summers exploring the little ones. Right now I'm urban and in Vancouver. I love rural or urban - the burbs make be nervous...
Cheers

Hi I love firefly.... the movie they based off of it was poorly done, but the tv series was/is awesome. Now if they could just finish their story and get back on the air

Thanks still for all the welcomes!

Pender is a great place to live. And I agree, the burbs make me nervous, but I'm okay with urban too - just not to live in anymore! I grew up in Seattle.

For us Firefly fans, maybe we should start a "get it back on the air" club. But I think creator Joss Whedon is so fed up with networks he's doing different stuff now. Darn.

Dylan, Hi!

I am also new to the forums, discovered them a few days ago. I feel so excited to have an online commmunity with similar beliefs to mine.

Your place sounds so romantic. I am pretty ignorant of Canadian geography, the only island I know is Prince Edward Island, as in "Anne of Green Gables" books. A couple of years ago I came across the books in the kids' section of our library, I fell in love with the books and read everything by and about L.M. Montgomery.

I live as far away from any semblance of nature as is possible - Brooklyn, NY

Welcome again!

Yaelita,
I have a good friend - a psuedo daughter - whos attending Pratt U right now in Brooklyn. I am as ignorant of NY geography as you are of Canada!

Pender is on the west coast, in British Columbia - pretty much right above Seattle (where I used to live) but on the Canadian side of the border!

Thanks for the welcome!

Oh, and I LOVE the Anne books too - my daughter is reading them now! (She's almost 11).
