i am new to mothering.com and was recently informed of this thru a friend of mine. i have been aquainted w/ the magazine and am glad to have found a forum to talk to you...
i am prego w/ my 2nd child, due in early march (my son now will be 4 on 3/10- great timing!!). however...my first birth was a very "impromptu" c-section due to my son being VERY breech at the time; he was born @39 wks. w/ no complications.
my husband and i are looking to have a natural birth this time. i think that i'd like the option of doing it at home, but to avoid any possible complications after having a c-section the first time, i think we'd feel more comfort at the hospital that we are familiar w/ where our 1st son was born. its a great place and we're so happy to have found it. our hospital has very low rates of medical intervention (epi's/spinals/demerol, etc.). and, we are using a midwife.
so, w/ that said, i am very excited about the opportunity of a natural birth/VBAC but want to hear of other's experience that have already gone thru the VBAC, etc. i am little trepid as to how to anticipate this birth since i had not gone thru any form of it, other than the major surgery to attain my son! when we got to the hospital, the day my son was born, it had been scheduled just 5 days prior due to his breech orientation...and, one of the nurses working with me had looked at the vital monitor and said, "holy crap, you're in labor!" i was like, "what?" she had asked if i had been feeling any contractions, i said, nothing at all. she thought it was interesting that although the graphs had indicated that i was having regular contractions every few mins., i was not in any pain. FYI: my water never broke either. but was soon to be wheeled off into the pre-op room and prepped for the surgery to extract my son...
at any rate, if any of you would like to share your stories that may help lessen some fears of mine, that would be fantastic. i'd like to see how other mom's have dealt w/ nat'l birth after a c-section and get their advice, etc. i/we are so much looking forward to this birth and really want to prepare our minds, as well as my body for such an awesome event!!
thank you and looking forward to hearing from you!
