In an effort to tidy up the forums, we're decided to unsticky some of the old stickies and create a real master list of Homeschooling Resources, which will be stickied instead. The old list was full of outdated links and redundant information, but I did bump up all of the old stickies so that if you have some favorite resources there, you can report them to this thread instead!

This thread is for links to curriculum as well as other homeschooling resources, such as essays about homeschooling, links to national homeschooling groups, links to homeschooling laws, and anything else that helped you. Please include a bit of information about the links you post, like "This is a great article explaining Charlotte Mason" or "This is a list of Christian homeschool curricula." This is not the place to argue about the merits of any resources, and of course, the posting of resources does not imply their endorsement by Mothering.

If you want to specifically review a curricula or other homeschooling resource, please post that in our Homeschool Curriculum and Resources Reviews forum.

Thanks!

Dar

we love all the Usborne books. The readers have puzzles right in the back for reading comprehension.
www.usbornebooks.com

they also have a lot of internet linked books and you can look them up for free at usbornequicklinks.com

If you are looking for geography web sites national geographic magazine has a kids web site . As does Canadian geographic magazine with lots of fun resourses.

Even www.amazon.ca is worth checking out if you have a work book like Jump math work books that you are looking for, we get them much cheaper through them than specific home school sites. If price is a concern as it is for us this is worth looking into.
www.orientaltrading.com has lots of craft kits, snap cubes , models and such and as much as I hate to use over seas made items for many things there is no other manufacturer. They also have wooden , canvas and porcalain paint your own if like us you are trying to cut down on plastic.
They have bulitin board decorations, art supplies and all are great prices.

I love these resource threads!!

I am currently looking through these resources and I noticed there a couple of dead links.

Elizawill posted a link to LookyBook (http://www.lookybook.com/) and
StoryLine Online (http://www.storylineonline.net/index2.html) although this link to StoryLine Online seems to be working .... http://www.storylineonline.net/

So far so good with all the other links, though! Thanks everyone!! My computer crashed not too long ago, so I lost all of my bookmarks. Thankfully I have learned how to back up my bookmarks. ... so keep posting!

www.scholarschoice.ca -- educational games, toys, and other materials. Through the website, you can also order teacher/classroom supplies, like science kits and art supplies, as well as workbooks etc. that say they meet Canadian guidelines.

http://www.canadianhomeeducation.com/index.asp Variety of materials -- workbooks, resource books, curricula, novels, timelines, manipulatives, art materials, etc.

http://www.aplusbookscanada.com/ -- curricula and other books. Leans very much towards biblical/Christian stuff. Small business with great customer service; she's always been able to special order stuff for me.

http://www.treeoflifeathome.com/ -- School and book store. Also biblical/Christian.

www.chapters.ca -- I've purchased McGuffey readers and some other similar books through here; it was cheaper than from specialty stores, especially since most of them were in the US. They also have a toy section, and they count towards the $40 for free shipping with books.

As a Professional Tutor I have the best success when I am allowed to use the following curriculum:

Math: http://www.mathusee.com/

spelling: http://www.avko.org/sequentialspelling.html It teaches root words first, and then expands.

Early Reading, Phonics & basic Spanish: http://www.read-phonics.com/

Early reader books: http://www.bobbooks.com/

Note: Regulations often require me to use Government approved workbooks, which the kids hate. I fill in with the above to motivate and to get results.

FREE curriculum for Pre-K through 5th grade. It takes some practice and effort getting used to the layout but the content is very good! My daughter is starting the K curriculum in a few weeks and I've been printing lessons to get everything ready and I'm impressed! I think the Grade 2 curriculum is quite advanced for most 2nd graders (language arts, anyway) but it can easily be modified. There is a good mix of writing, crafts and experiments. Some areas need some fleshing out (mostly science and history) but it i easy to plan ahead and add materials as you see fit.

Overall, a bit of time needs to be invested but seeing that the financial investment is minimal (just providing books) it is worth it to me!

FREE--OVER A DOZEN TESTS. Excellent list of several different tests for math, reading, learning style assessment, general assessments, rubrics, 30-minute IQ test, etc.

They also have ACT and SAT tests at very low prices ($3, $4, etc.).

GOTTA CLICK ON "exam for an 8th grade education in 1895"---FUNNY AND HARD. (Scroll down about 1/3.)

I used the website for tests and placement, used several of them on their list, and they were all online tests--didn't have to print things and the kids enjoyed them fairly well. I wanted to be sure we were on track and they were at the right grade level. Mission accomplished.
