I think Latin is the right choice for my 7 year old (will be 8 in Dec.) She is a very advanced kid and her vocabulary and comprehension are pretty high. She reads very well and has a long attention span (sometimes longer than mine!!)
I've been looking at:
*Latina Christiana I
*Lively Latin
*Latin for Children
I like the idea of the DVD, CD, book, etc because I don't know much about Latin and like the DVD idea in particular. We are Christian, but definitely not Catholic. I don't mind Christian undertones, etc. I do want to stay under $100 or so, but I think I can with all three programs.
So....what do you use and why? Have you used any of the above programs?
I just got a used copy of Prima Latina for $20, TM, 2 student books and the CD.
It looks good, haven't tried it yet, hoping to next week.. I got it b/c that is what the publisher recommends.
I am of the firm belief you can buy almost anything for less than the original price.
Minimus! It is a friendly introduction and does a nice job with history and culture. Of all of the homeschooling materials we've used K-12, it is one of my favorites. It certainly isn't a place to end the study of Latin (our son continues in college) but it is a great place to start. We started Minimus with a very a very academic seven year old. The material is also well suited for a small co-op with a handful of families too if you are interested in that.

Take a look at Latin's Not So Tough! by Karen Mohs. That is what L used and she really liked it. It is pretty inexpensive and written by a homeschool mother so very easy to use. You can order the pronunciation CD to go with it, also for a very reasonable price. We got ours from Rainbow Resource.
No, she hasn't done any Latin before. I'm definitely looking for something with MINIMAL prep work required by me. I'm trying to simplify for this fall a little with the new baby coming early early in the school year.

This is what we are using. I wanted something that wouldn't take too long out of our day but that we could do every day. The kid took to it pretty well.
It's not fancy, it goes slow, but it's working for us.
We used Prima Latina for my 8 year old ds this year. It was great. No prep at all on my part. We just watch the lesson on the DVD, then do the activities in the workbook.
Next year we'll be using Latin for Children because he saw it at a curriculum fair and wanted to try it.
I know very little about Latin and we're using Getting Started with Latin with relative ease.
