I found a great website and just wanted to share. Its called Homeschool Skedtrack and it is free. Description from the site-

Quote:
Homeschool Skedtrack is a FREE online lesson planner, scheduler, and tracking system rolled into one. The heart of the system is the automated scheduling of activities that frees you from the headache of rescheduling everything once an activity/lesson is missed.
I've been playing with it for about a week now and I'm thinking it is going to be really great for this upcoming school year. You put the lessons in sequentially by course, but not tied to dates, so they get checked off as completed and roll over to the next day that subject is scheduled. You input the amount of time (handy for those with requirements) for the school year hours, and the amount of time generally spent on the course per day (can be edited). It will tally it all and tell you if you're not meeting time requirements. You can put in more than one student and even copy whole courses if they are the same or very similar. You can also have it so that the students can log in with their own id and see exactly what is on the agenda for the day and check off what they complete (then it is checked off but pending teacher's approval to be marked complete for that date). It even has a log for hobbies and resources info too. It seems like if one wanted too they could easily keep track of chores or outside activities with this too, they do have a way to input field trips. I haven't clicked on everything yet, but so far I'm loving it. There is also a forum, but I only peeked at it for a minute and it did not appear very busy. It did take me a little bit of playing around to figure out how to make next year's school year and make it default. There are video tutorials to watch.

This is nice. Everyone who reads this...watch the instructional video's. They will help a lot. I am very computer literate. If I hadn't watched the video's, I would have tossed the program. I just wish I could put it on my iphone.

I started watching them last night. This is exactly what I would like - I do the same thing right now but I have to manually plan and track. Automated is much cooler THanks!!

WOHM to DS11 and DD9, both T1Ds

Yeah, I was a little confused at first myself. It is on 2008-2009 school year by default and I wanted to start planning 2009-2010 so I had to play around and figure it out. Then I kept putting dates in when adding activities and it wasn't working, lol. Duh moment, it doesn't work that way. Which is what I wanted and was looking for anyway. I did go and watch some of the tutorials after I realized they were there.

Wow! Fantastic resource. Thanks for sharing. It looks really cool.

To keep Homeschool Tracker or not to keep it, that is the question. We'll be travelling for about 4 months of the school year & may have no access to the internet for Homeschool Skedtrack. Guess I have to decide before loading up data into anyone of them. Wonder of there's a head-to-head comparison online.

Off to check...

Yeah, I've been using it and love it. Take the time to watch the videos and look at the sample screenshots before you start using it. Their forums aren't very active, but I've requested a few features and asked a few questions and each time they responded promptly with a good answer.

I also did a blog review for those of you who just want to see how one homeschooler is loving it so far! There's a few of my own screenshots.

Can items be recorded on weekend days, or does the program automatically assume that weekends are days off?

no, you can use whatever days you prefer. i'd really recommend watching the tutorials. it's very helpful in understanding the program i am actually *considering* using this scheduler, and i am a "pen and paper" kinda gal, lol. i like it though because it reschedules for me the things we don't get too. this way, i'll never feel "behind". i really like that about this program....well, and that it's FREE! love that!

I am considering adding weekend days for certain courses, as my husband just told me he'd love to help out on the weekends (yay!). Or weekends could be great to do the lessons we didn't get to during the week. If I know we'll be out of town, I'll just schedule that in so it will know we won't do anything those days. And like everyone says, it's flexible enough so if we don't get to them during a weekend, no problem, it'll bump to Monday!

Okay, a quick question, which I didn't see addressed in the videos.

If an assignment goes on for several days, is there any way to indicate that it was worked on during a particular day but hasn't yet been completed?

In the Simply Charlotte Mason (not free) planner, you can leave the check box blank if you didn't work on it (and it'll roll over to the next day), click once to indicate it was worked on but not completed (and it'll roll over to the next day), or click twice to indicate it was completed.

Is there a way to do this in homeschoolskedtrack, or would I have to go back and insert a new activity listing for a to-be-continued activity?

I don't have an answer, but would advise you to ask on the forums there. They are very prompt about providing answers to questions and also there is a forum for requesting new features if it isn't available now. Pretty cool I think!
