HI all-
I've read through the other homeschooling thread but have some questions... We homeschool our ds who is almost eight ( 2nd grade). I'm interested in learning how I can incorporate Montessori into what we already do. We are quite eclectic- earthschooling, waldorf, and trying MBTP this year. I deliberately held off on most academics, but ds is gifted and I think this might help him with focus and meet his need for information!
What do I start with for a child this age? Are the new guides good? Will I need to purchase tons of materials( if so, I'm out)
Can anyone offer advice? Has anyone else done this?
When ds was little, we did some practical life activities but that's about it. On the plus side, we have a great homeschool space, and I am very organized. Thanks in advance for any help!

There are a few good books out there. I like "Montessori in the home" and "Play and learn". There is a Montessori homeschooling thread somewhere around here if you search the forums. Alot of the materials can be made but some are better bought. You can find used materials on ebay for less. My oldest is only 5 and was in a Montssori preschool this last few years. I love Montessori but classroom environment is not a good match for him so we have started homeschooling and I plan on incorporating Montessori materials into our plans. Good luck

Unfortunately most around here are Montessori in the preschool years; you might find a few people in the Montessori homeschooling threads with older kids that you could PM.

But, yeah, there is an emphasis on special materials in Montessori, especially for math -- the binomial/trinomial cubes, beads, etc.

Biggest help for me: http://www.infomontessori.com

I do not buy from Juliana group. I buy from http://www.montessorioutlet.com . I know a lot of people make their materials, but the investment is worth it for me since we plan on having many children and already have 3 it will be used for. The older they get, the less materials there are to buy anyway, so this may not apply to you.
