Hi there

My dd is 14 and is using Saxon Math 8/7. She chose Saxon after Miquon and Developmental Math because she liked the straightforward approach. She struggles with math, especially if she doesn't do it every day. She is getting very confused with fractions, decimals and percents. I feel bad for her and want to help her feel confident with this. She sometimes gets very upset that she "doesn't know this stuff". We talked about the Key to series. As I was looking, I discovered the Life of Fred books. They look very fun and informative (I looked at the samples online). What do you think would be a good next step? I want her to enjoy numbers or at least not dread math. Any ideas are greatly appreciated

We actually just bought both Life of Fred Fractions and the Key to Fractions series for my 9yo ds. Looking over them, I think that they're both great and I would recommend both if you could.

If you have to pick just one for someone who is having trouble with fractions, I would probably just get the Key To... books.

Thank you, plathui5 I think you are right. I did add the Life of Fred fractions for my 9 y/o to the cart. I think he'll enjoy it as a break from his Saxon too. I am also considering the Life of Fred Beginning Algebra book ~even if I have to do it myself, lol. I also think, given dd's preference for simple books, she might like Key To better for now. I'll see if I can get the Algebra book into the schedule after the holidays.
