DD (almost 4) told me very matter-of-factly today at breakfast that she wanted to learn about apples and pumpkins. So I am coming to you very creative mamas to see if anyone has any good links to pumpkin/apple themes or any craft ideas good for preschool aged children?

FYI-we are going apple picking next week and will be doing apple stamping and baking apple pies, etc.

We're also doing some apple stuff -- and found a fun book at the library called The Apple Doll by Elisa Kleven. It sparked the desire to make an apple doll (there are directions in the book and online). I remember making apple dolls when I was in school, so fun and DD1 loves "projects" so we're super-excited.

There are lots of neat apple and pumpkin picture books to read -- we've enjoyed a lot of these lately!

We checked out Johnny Appleseed books from library. We will also make an apple cobbler for dessert.

Are there any orchards near you to visit?

We read this book last year and my DC were a little too young at the time to make the Apple Doll, but I think they would LOVE it this year! Thanks for the reminder!

You beat me to it! We have this book from the library and will be making an apple doll this week.

I am a 40 year old unschooling, belly dancing, artist-mama of one almost 8 year old. I just had brain surgery and blogging.jpg about it a bit because it's just so surreal.

May I share a little poem about apples

THE APPLE TREE

Way up in the apple tree,
Two little apples smile at me.
I shook that tree,
As hard as I could.
Down they came.
Yum, they were good!

My son goes around saying this to everyone we meet..

we are also going apple picking next week. if you have netflix, we've put johnny appleseed in our instant queue (by shelley duvall)....haven't seen it actually, but hopefully it will be good. we'll also read the story johnny appleseed by steven kellogg.

we plan to do the following activities as well (which we did many when my daughter was 5...but my ds will love them)...

read "how to make an apple pie and see the world" & we make the pie with the recipe in the back of this book. it's pretty good. http://www.amazon.com/Make-Apple-Wor.../dp/0679880836

make apple craft: http://mytwomonkeys.webs.com/apps/ph...otoid=12081250

apple stamping: http://mytwomonkeys.webs.com/apps/ph...otoid=12081232

how does an apple grow? http://www.amazon.com/How-Apples-Gro.../dp/0064451178

compare & contrast: red/yellow/green apples. how are they alike? how are they different?

we will also incorporate ideas from this teacher website: http://www.mrsnelsonsclass.com/teach...ts/apples.aspx

hth.
