hello,
I read "The Well-Trained Mind" recently and thought it had a lot of good ideas that we'll probably incorporate into our homeschooling curriculum. One thing it recommended for young children was '"Slow and Steady, Get Me Ready." I read the description of the book and its contents on amazon.com and the thing is, the "skills" it says it helps develop sound like a lot of things we just generally do as part of life.
So, I wondered if anyone here had used the book and if it was useful and what kind of activities does it suggest? Our library system doesn't have it, so I'd have to buy it.

fun general activities using everyday items. If you are bursting at the seams with ideas to keep your child busy that are completely developmentally on task then you probably don't need it. We enjoyed it. I didn't follow it week to week but when I had a week where my little guy was burning through everything of interest ~ it was a nice resource to have with fresh ideas to keep him from disrupting a lesson.

I got it but didn't really follow through with it. That's a reflection on me, not the book. As I recall (I haven't looked at the book in a few years) my biggest concern with the book was that the last 26 weeks were just introducing a letter a week. It seems they could have come up with more creative ideas.

Created an instant family (7/89 and 5/91) in 1997. Made a baby boy 12/05 adopted a baby girl 8/08. Ask me about tandem adoptive nursing. Now living as gluten, dairy, cane sugar, and tomato free vegetarians. Homeschooling and loving it.
