We currently use Math U See and my DD is having a hard time with it. As we're going through the lessons she does very well and seems to be retaining all the information, but by the end of a unit it's like we've never even touched it. She seems to be mixing up numbers as well. I'm becoming very frustrated with it. Maybe it's not the curriculum and she is having a hard time with retention. How do I help her?

Maybe some more information would be helpful.

How old is DD?  What level of math are you working on?  What has her math experience been like in the past?  How is she *as a learner* (does she prefer hands on, abstract thinking, etc...)?

Like Tiredx2 I'm wondering how old she is and what level of math we're talking about. MUS is a good curriculum, multi-modal, well-crafted. If she seems to do fine, but lacks retention, that would make me think of a pearl of wisdom I was given by an experienced homeschooling mom many years ago:

"If the learning goes in but doesn't stick, it's because the place it's supposed to stick isn't there yet."

Is it possible that your dd isn't yet quite developmentally ready for the level of abstraction that this math is demanding of her?

Thanks for the response!

She is 7. We're currently working on the Alpha level doing basic addition.

That is a wonderful pearl of wisdom!
