Ok, so I have been looking over http://www.classicalcurriculum.com/ and have started thinking about languages. This is one area I have a definite love affair with. I took 3 semesters of Spanish and 2 of French in high school, these were the only languages (other than Latin) offered. At the time, I didn't grasp the importance of Latin. So, the languages I want/need to learn/introduce are:

American Sign Language

a specific Native American language (cultural)

Latin

German

So, I was thinking that at this point, ASL and the NA language would suffice since my dd is HOH. And my children are NA. I think my ds likes the idea of a "secret language." And we already use some of it, though the longer I am away from his family, the less I use it, hence wanting to start "formal lessons" at least for me and the conversational with the kiddos.

Would this be too much language (esp for HOH dd) and do you think that ASL and NAL would be too much at once (for a normal hearing child)? Would my HOH dd pick up both English and the NAL? And what about the kids? Would they have 3 "first languages" since they are under ten?

I know it's early, but is German a good language (since English is Germanic) or is there a better language (or could the kids get a different language later, or should I add it to our language currric)? I wouldn't start Latin until around age 10 (for ds1) and German would be started between 7-10th grade. I think that might work. Any ideas? Do I sound as confused as I feel?

What languages do you teach?

I wanted to add that I introduce the sign andNAL word concurrently. For example the other day we learned the word and sign for shoe. My soon likes to do this. He seems to like learning b oth but my concern is my HOH lo. Will she be able to learn two or more languages or should I just make languages a way of life and fill in the blanks for her?
