I loved this list and was happy to see we practice quite a few of the tips like growing our own food as much as possible, this year we will be saving seeds and processing our food through dehydrating, pickling/canning, and freezing. We go for walks and get out into nature often. We also use cloth, and make our own laundry detergent! Some things I'd like to work on are doing more art/crafts, board games and family yoga, and baking bread. As my boys get older I look forward to doing more like family movies, farm animals, and building cob structures.

There's nothing better when the weather warms up than cloth diapers and wipes hanging outside in the sun :)

I also love to re-purpose all the scraps of lumber in my dad's barn into pieces of art for our home and have refurbished lots of furniture over the years.

We also use cloth napkins, diapers, cleaning rags.  We grow a garden for food, and save seeds, and share seedlings.  I'd like to implement the sanctuary and cleaning in 10 minute splurts.

Use cloth napkins, cloth bags, and cleaning cloths
This is HUGE for our family as paper towels had become a staple for us. It took a while to get the hang of using our organic cloths for our hands, faces, and cleaning but we've really reduced our use of paper towels. We've also switched to completely chemical free, earth-friendly cleaning products and laundry detergent. We're taking the changes one at a time so they stick rather than doing everything all at once.

We do quite a few of these including making toys, cards, and simple clothes (I love to knit), use cloth napkins, cloth bags, and cleaning cloths as well as home-made cloth diapers.  We've pet-sat for friends and we greet neighbors by first names.  And making music/dancing is a daily occurance in this house.  :)

Monthly I go through the house and try to fill a box with things we could live without or have not used and donate to our local Woman's Shelter.

I like the cleaning in 10 min spurts idea

we do a lot of these already, but I'm excited to get my organic garden up and running here at our new house!  I want to learn how to can and preserve my own produce.

So many of these tips inspire me. Just filtering through the excess and focusing on the simple and meaningful. Giving away what we don't need, learning to make and cook wholesome food, being intentional with family time and relationship. Learning to be intentional and not be consumers. Living and learning together!

My favorite from the list is "Write a letter or pick up the phone rather than sending an email or text". I have penpals all over the USA and have been penpaling since the late 90's. Snail mail is the only form of communication I have with friends. I think it's more personal and intimate. I can truly be myself on paper and not to mention.. writing is very therapeutic.

We live off the grid, live within very small means by spending less time on jobs and more time on creating wealth with our hands and hearts....grow our own food with the latest triumph being goat milk, yogurt and cheese made here at home from our goats. To be honest, the thing I'd like to scale down next is our internet use: have considered going back to dialup to make us stay away from the computer and internet. :)

there is so much within that article that is just a simple part of living a healthful, sustainable, loving life.  our main thing is that we live in a 500sqft. home.  that in itself makes our lives very different.  we strive to keep things simple.  we enjoy being outside, that makes our home seem bigger :), that is our entertainment most of the time.  we gather things that we need at thrift stores, yard sales and from friends, but we also give away things that we no longer need.  sharing is a big part of our lives.  we share food, toys, plants, time, love and effort.  life is good for us.  my 6 year old told me the other day that she is very thankful for her life and all that we do for her.  that is beautiful!  joy.gif

ps. i am sharing this all on my FB page.  spread the love.

I love the idea of a "wonderings" board.  It would be nice to have a spot in our home where we all post through words and pictures.  Perhaps a chalk board.

We moved to a town where we can walk just about everywhere. I even walk to work! We have one car.  Sometimes it is tricky, but our neighbors are great and we borrow from each other whenever we can.

During stressful/high activity times we often forget to look in each other's eyes.  Slowing down and connecting feels good.

Thanks for the great tips! I didn't know about the Oak Meadow journal! I'm happy to see it here.

these are all great ideas, most of which i am working towards. so far we cloth diaper, mama cloth and use old clothes as rags, we hang dry our diapers, we are recycling our old toys in our local community and we are trying to get into homeschooling our oldest child for preschool / kindergarten

we do a lot of these, but I love the idea of incorporating an "I wonder" board at home.  that would be a great way to write or draw what we're interested in learning about!
