Would like to put my son in a private school but kids father is being an ass about it. He would prefer our child go to a Springfield Public School. Yeah right.  So I am looking for alternatives like homeschooling.  I dont even know where I begin. Do I have to call some department and let them know that I am going to homeschool. My son would be starting kindergarden.  I was told that for public school, I had to register my son at the "parent information center" and I have their number, but again, he is NOT going to a public school.  I would either homeschool or private.  Any ideas? Thanks.

PS. Im calling the number tomorrow and asking about homeschooling but I thought I would ask you guys first.shy.gif

How old is your son? It looks like you have to notify your school district this September if your son turns 6 in 2013... If he won't turn 6 before the end of the calendar year (Dec 31, 2013), you don't have to start reporting until September 2014. I'm looking at the "getting started" section on www.mhla.org. Each state has different requirements. I'm in PA and don't know anything about MA but that looks like a useful site.

That's what it looks like:-) So you have a whole year to figure out the logistics of homeschooling.

Around here, a lot of homeschoolers meet through yahoo groups. There might be a local homeschool group on facebook. Try searching for homeschool support groups using your state name and the name of your area/city. Some might be religious, some won't be. If you can join some local groups, you'll be able to get advice from people in your area. And make friends and find activities!
