You don't have to send in a curriculum.  You send in a tentative plan.  I copy the typical course of study from the worldbook site.   Keep in mind you don't have to send in anything if your child won't be 6 until next year.  If your child is turning 6 this year, then you have to submit paperwork.  Did you send in your Letter of Intent to the Central Office of Homeschooling yet?

You can teach any way you want.  You can use a curriculum or just piece together some fun things you find.  Or you don't have to do anything but treat each day like an awesome Saturday (your child will still be learning tons).

thank you citymomx3! i believe ive visited your blog may times and used you LOI info as well! Im very confused about the age requirement now.  i was under the assumption that as of last june, 2012, 5 year olds were required to do kindergarten??

I sent our LOI and am preparing to send the other paperwork by august 15th.  i'll check out the worldbook site.  i've got great plans for us in the informal creative way, but i had thought that ny state was pretty strict about meeting certain criteria in a specific way, so i had wanted to make sure i covered all my bases.

That Kindergarten rule doesn't apply to homeschoolers.  The LOI that you sent is enough for this school year.  Next spring (2014) send another LOI and then the required paperwork for the rest of that school year.  NYC isn't strict at all.  I would suggest joined a yahoo group called NY-HEN.  It's a bunch of NY homeschoolers who discuss the regulations.
