A long time ago, I read this great blog post where a mom shared that she made these books for her kids... they were like diaries or journals and mom would write a message to kid, kid would write back, etc. She started young (before kids could write) and kept it up through puberty where they were really useful... What I'm really looking for is the name she called them. She had a great name...
I'm finally getting around to putting journals together for my kids, and I can't remember what she called them. I don't want to just call them journals, because we kind of have those already... I need a special name for them... anyone do something like this? What do you call them??
I'm planning on starting one for my oldest, and I have a journal picked out and will give it to her on her birthday next week, along with one for herself. Her writing is more fluent now, and I want a way to listen to what she has to say without the need to respond back immediately. I'm sure I will be reading a lot about how much her sister annoys her.
You're right, I can't think of a name for it beyond "shared journal" which isn't really accurate, is it?
"Let me see you stripped down to the bone. Let me hear you speaking just for me."
I found the blog post I was talking about... she calls it a mommy and me journal. It's not the great name I was thinking it was...
ah well... i was also toying with the idea of calling them communication journals and letting the kids write notes to each other in them too when they had issues to sort out (as they got older, they're still too little for that yet i think) ... but that sounds too formal to me.... sigh.. maybe i'll let the kids name them...
