hey all!
Just saying hi to my new board! I am actually very excited about
this board b/c I plan on unschooling very shortly (after my move).
I have 2 sons. One is 4 and the other is almost 2. I am a SAHM
but I have 8 years of elem. public school teaching experience! I stayed
home for 3 years and went back to teaching last year only to realize that "YES" public schools stink and my boys will never be going to one! ag

So I look forward to bringing my experience to this board as well as learning
everything I can from you all about unschooling/homeschooling!!!
So get ready to teach me..............

Good luck with the move! Homeschooling is the best! I'm supported by my dad who was a public school teacher, principal, and then superintendant for over 30 yrs and also my brother who has been teaching public schools for 10 yrs. They say that public school is for the masses but if you can, you should homeschool. I also have a degree in elem. education.

It's great to have you here as mod!

Wow, Missgrrl good to have you here! Congrats on your decision to homeschool/unschool your kids. Yea!

Amy, that's soo cool that your family is so supportive over your homeschooling your kids--especially the have such public school backgrounds. Sometimes I feel like my family will never come around and I don't even have kids yet to homeschool!

Kylix - I was very surprised as well. My parents were on vacation when we made the final, final decision and I didn't even tell them that I was doing it. I think my dad may have been aprehensive but never said so. Esp. since we live in one of the top 5 school districts in the state. Now, with a year under our belts he can't brag enough about homeschooling. He currently works at our state's capital lobbying for public schools but tells everyone that his daughter homeschools! He even took my oldest there with him for the day. It all still amazes me. I know I'm lucky to have such family support. Really, I think it's just such an odd idea to some people. It's hard for them to "think outside the box". I lost many friends in my neighborhood b/c they couldn't accept my choice. That's sad, I think. I gained many more. I know I'm totally off topic here! Sorry!

Welcome again to Missgrrl!

teachermom~No, we are not coming to Austin anymore! We
were very close but now have decided to go to Cali! We are
looking for even smaller than Austin...but who knows! If we
ever move back to Texas it will be Austin for sure!

Amy~Our moving is alot based on us homeschooling! Our
parents are getting more and more supportive as we talk about
it....but our friends and siblings?????? We for sure want to
be in a part of the country where homeschooling is way more
prevelant and get lots more in the name of support and support
groups!

Missgirl..you will be missed in austin but I'm glad that you'll found where you want to be. If I couldn't homeschool here cali would be the next place I'd look.
