My 15 year old daughter wants to go to the new public school here in our county. This si a school that has an wonderful art program. One of the art teachers and the choras teachers are friends of Kait's. She, my DD. has called the school board herself and requested a waiver to attend school out of zone. She took the"test" required by homeschool students on Monday. They just called and said that she passed with"flying colors' ( this is a kid who has never had any school books except math!!) She was also approved for the waiver to attend school out of zone!!!!!!

There is a part of me that wants to so NOOOOOOOOO, please stay home. This is where you belong........

But, I have always believed that children "own their own education and that is their responsiblity. I have taught her to think for herself and to do what she feels is best for her. Now that she has made a choice that I dont agree with I am a little thrown off.

I am going to take her in the morning....... I know I will cry. I am not even sure why.

Now I will be a mom of a kid in a public high school!!!!!!! How do I do that?????

Thanks for letting me vent.

I'm sure you will do it with the same grace and love that got you here in the first place. It sounds to me like your dd is an intelligent and responsible young lady that knows what she wants in life. That will stand her (and you as well) in good firm ground. You have provided her with a fertile enviorment these past 15 years and she is just budding for a new season. Enjoy!

Namaste,
b

Thank you Barbra,

I always respect and admire your words.

I am very fearful but this is Kaits choice and I will respect and support whatever she feels is right for her.

It will be hard but I know what ever she does and where ever she goes, she will shine!!!

Lee, I remember each time I read something posted here by Kait. Each of those times I thought "what an amazing girl this is and what a wonderful job Granolamom has done" You have become an inspiration to me and I hope that my now 14-month old dd grows up to be just as sweet, caring, intelligent and independent as your Kait is.

Like you said, you raised her to think for herself.

I'm having a hard time looking at my dd thinking how fast she is growing, I can't imagine what I'll be thinking in 15 yrs!

granolamom....

"Now I will be a mom of a kid in a public high school!!!!!!! How do I do that?????"

You take a deep breath.....thats what i do, everyday i drop my almost 16 yr old daughter off. BUT, whats important here is what kind of parent you are, and what kind of young woman Kait is. It is so beautifully obvious how well Kait has "turned out", no doubt because of the way you raised her. She is a fine young woman with a good head on her shoulders. This is what we have been doing all these years.....raising our children to be independent of us, to stand on their own 2 feet.

take a deep breath and look at your DD with pride.
You've raised a young lady who is bright and know what she wants in life and how to reach those goals. You knew that one day she would want to spread out those wings and fly. You just didn't think it would be this early. They grown up way too fast. sounds like she has a good head on her shoulders and her feet well rooted and stable. I bet she will do great in PS, because of the education you have provided her with for all these yrs.

(((((Granolamom))))) Tell your Kait I too, had artistic aspirations at 15 and was very much influenced by the wonderful art teacher I had in public high school! I think that may have been the only good thing that I got out of ps (or one of the only!)

I am a weaver to this day...and still have the artistic aspirations that were gently watered by a loving teacher when I was 15. They continued to be watered today by my loving dh and dc.

Give Kait a hug for me
