I am looking for a birthday present for my niece and thought I would get her a magazine subscription. I think she'd enjoy getting something new in the mail just for her. I'm also interested in something for my children. Any suggestions? My MIL has gotten Ranger Rick for the boys and they seem to like that. We've had highlights but were not happy with it. Someone had suggested the National Geographic for Kids- anyone have any opinion there? We're interested in many areas so any suggestions would be welcome.
Thank you!
My niece is going to be 4. She is interested in movies. I'm not sure that she does anything else! I refuse to buy her a video or DVD as that seems to me to be all she does. She is afraid of insects... She does like going to visit my parents and play with their goats. Oh, and she likes to fish with grandpa. I really can't think of anything else that she seems to enjoy.
My kids have liked (at differing ages, of course) Zoo Books, Ranger Rick, National Geographic Kids, History Magazine, Kids Discover, Learning Through History, Popular Science, American Girl, Turtle, Time for Kids, The Week...what age is your niece?
Oooo thanks for that list Joan! I am getting so far for my kids: Wild Animal Baby, Your Big Backyard, Ranger Rick (which I had as a kid and LOVED), and NG Kids off ebay and the money saved there will let me get a few more, that list helps me figure out what
Big Backyard is great. So is Zoobooks. Any of the Cricket magazines are good: Ladybug, Spider, Babybug. I don't like NG for Kids--it is filled from start to finish with TONS of ads. That may not bother anyone, but my husband and I were appalled by it, and very surprised. JMO.
I remember someone posted that about the ads in NG kids...We get National Geographic, Smithsonian, Natural History, Family Fun, Zoobooks and Big Backyard right now. We've gotten Highlights and one other I can't think of the name of.
The nieces and nephews love the ones from Carus as well as Big Backyard. Sports Illustrated for Kids is a huge hit as well.
I haven't seen a film mag or a fishing mag for little kids....
Ladybug and turtle are great preschool aged magazines. I love turtle, it has lots of fun games in it along with poetry. I can't remember which one it is for young kids, if its ranger rick or big backyard.
We just subscribed to babybug and wild animal baby for my 7mth old.
