My husband is considering a job in College Park, Maryland, at the university there. I'm wondering if it is a crunchy place, if there are homeschoolers there, if the Maryland homeschooling laws are decent, and all that sort of thing. I'm just starting to get curious about the place as this job prospect starts looking more and more serious. Right now we're in southern California, and although I HATE the smog and dislike Orange County's right-wingedness, I do like one thing about California besides the tremendous natural beauty: You can pretty much do what you want here and people leave you alone. Homeschooling, vaccination, whatever....there are laws to protect your freedom of choice, in a way that does not exist in every state. I'm curious if anyone has anything good or bad to say about Maryland.

I spent some time in College Park pre-kids, so I can't say much about how kid-friendly it is or what the homeschooling laws are. I did live in Baltimore for awhile and we had planned to homeschool there, and I don't remember it being a problem.

Takoma Park is very crunchy/progressive if you are looking for crunchiness in Maryland.
