Just wondering if anyone has joined Earth Scouts on here!

I've signed up for the yahoo group but I don't have time to start a real group here yet. Hopefully by the fall a friend of mine will be able to help. Right now we're just doing some of the things as a family.

Anyone else?

We have been doing the Earth Scout thing for more then half a year and have known about it for a couple years. It is an awesome concept I just wish it was a little more established cause it would be nice to have more direction/leadership for a busy mom like me.

Funny timing - we are attending our first meeting in a couple of weeks. I'm very excited about it!

How do you find if a group exists near your area?

Shannon, join the yahoo group. I think that's the best way to find people. Most of the groups are still just starting or looking for people to start.

That sounds neat!

It reminds me a little of "Roots and Shoots" groups coordinated by the Jane Goodall Institute...

I've looked into Spiral Scouts, but I haven't heard of Earth Scouts before. They sound pretty similar.

We have a large group who are interested in starting an Earth Scouts group. However, we can't find a place to meet. Once it gets warm enough, we can meet in a park. But for now we can't find anyplace that doesn't want us to have liability insurance. Any ideas?

Interesting problem. Usually with nationally organized groups like this they will provide liability insurance policies to member chapters for a low yearly fee. But if the Earth Scouts organization hasn't gotten to that point yet, I wonder what other chapters are doing? Can you just rotate meeting in members' homes for the cold weather season?

Thanks for bumping this thread. I had never heard of the Earth Scouts but I am now very intrigued.

We have been doing something similar called "Spiral Scouts". I am a leader for my own son's group (for the last three years). The flexibility is amazing, and the organization is pretty well established, as it is international. In the last few years we have done cooking, hiking, camping, astronomy, birding, sculpture, and many other topics. My son LOVES it!
