In California, we can register as a private school and we need to name it.

We will be starting next year, and I"m leaning towards Willow Corner Academy or school. Our property has a huge willow tree right in the middle, and our house is built on the back corner of the lot- leaving a huge open field out front.

I don't need to name it but I refer to it as "Homefree Academy" in reference to our unschooling and we are at home and free to learn as we want

our name is lake superior children's house

we started homeschooling with a montessori bent

our homeschool co-op is marquette independent learner's cooperative...m.i.l.c.

and our homeschool growing up was sherwood forest christian school...my stepdad's last name was sherwood....so cheesy i hated it!

i'd like to change our school name, but the kids love it. i like something with harvest in it...not sure....i like home education as opposed to homeschool and learners.....

Ours is Rocky River Academy. We live right near the Rocky River. The kids helped pick it out.

"Home". (We don't have to name our homeschool in our province.)

Which wouldn't be bad, now that I think about it

So there we go. That's our homeschool name for this year.
I love these!

If we were to name our homeschool it would have to emphasize something special about our home surroundings. WE have a lovely alley that is more like a park that neighbors stroll down. There are many ash trees planted along it. Also, one of the private schools I attended as a child was --blank-- commons. I think "commons" be a more english way of saying elementary or something like that (correct me if I am wrong). In anycase I like the idea of shared common spaces--more of a community feel, so we would name our school Ashwood Commons. Besides we spend a lot of time in the backyard and ajoining alley. Alley Cat School just doesn't sound as sophisticated. I like the word "independent" in a homeschool's name as well.

Adventure Life Learners.

Rather interesting and telling I think that Adventure has featured in another couple of homeschools also.

Crystal Academy. I just came up with this when we wanted to create a student ID for my teen. Based on the name of our town, the lake across the street, and the metaphysical properties of crystals.

we are currently The School Down the Lane because the street we live on is ----- Lane and we are the last house. I had several choices and that's what the kids picked. Some of the other choices were The Poplar and Pines School and Fireside School.

Previously we have been Lakeside Academy because we live on a lake and Whole Child Academy because I liked it (but the kids didn't, so we changed it).

I think someone posted the last time we discussed this that a formula for finding a school name was to look out your window or front door and take what you see and then add school, academy, center etc. At that point we would have been *Big Empty Dirt Lot Academy* but maybe it will work better for some of you

We are The Diosa Dotada Endeavor. We don't have to have a name, but I like having one-- It's kind of fun. I didn't like academy, institute, school, or any of those sorts of words. Too institutional/formal for me! There are some beautiful names here. What a neat thread!

We're filling out our paperwork soon to send in.
We either want Avalon Academy - Avalon being the mystic isle in the King Aurthur stories, where the "gifted ones" go to learn and hone their talents. Also because my DS is half English and spends every summer in the UK with his grandparents.
OR
Passport to Knowledge:- since we intend to do alot of traveling!
Let me know. I'm kinda torn between the 2.

We would be "Neighbor Who Throws His Trash Out His Back Door Because He's Too Cheap To Pay For Garbage Service Academy"
But instead we are "Pride Ranch Academy". It's a combination of where we live and where the characters in Lion King live. We have a mascot too - it's a lion.

We don't have a name and aren't required to have one. But I think it would be nice at some point to come up with a name. Last time I asked dd she said something like Rainbows and fairies school or something like that. Cute, but not quite what I had in mind.
