This week's writing - write an acrostic poem. An acrostic is where you use a word as your subject and you use the letters in the word to start the lines of the poem, like this:

S oft wind blowing
P etals unfold
R ainy days ... etc...
I
N
G

My kids have decided they want to do their own names, but I think they will probably do more than one because they are fun. I'll post them when they write them, we're off to the children's museum today.

Anyone who wants to join, please feel free to jump in any time! All ages and level of writing experience welcome.

hee hee. I thought this was a "wiring" workshop, which is totally what my kiddo is into right now - making wire sculptures, that is.

He also regularly writes poetry though, so I'll see if he wants to get in on some acrostics here.

The kids like to be out of the house at least a few times a week, so we are on the go a lot. This week was kid's museum (Monday) , all day at the lake (Tuesday), friends over (Wednesday), all day at the ocean (today) and we will be home tomorrow because I have a massive amount of work to catch up on now, lol!

On our way to the beach this morning, Kenna wrote her acrostic:

Beautiful waves
Excellent ocean
Awesome parrots
Catching crabs
Hammonassett

I thought hers was great! We have green parrots that live at Hammonassett beach in Connecticut - go figure, lol!) that the kids think are the coolest things, and their favorite activity is catching crabs.
Kenna flew a kite successfully for the first time today while we were at the beach, so I thought of a short acrostic while she was flying her kite:

Kenna flew her kite so high
Into the bright blue sky
Towards the surf, til it crashed down to
Earth

Well... I have nothing to post, because both girls gave their poems away! Lydia wrote one about angels for her grandma, and Molly wrote one using the name of a little girl at church. She gave it to the girl's dad... I hope he liked it, because it was a sweet poem.

Looking forward to the next assignment...
