I was a wee one when my folks were stationed there in the mid-late 70s. My memories are pretty limited, but we were there. We have some great 8mm movies and photos. It's where my sister was born, so she was the Panamanian Princess in our house!

We are looking to move there now . There is some wonderful land for sale. And it would be a nice change.

I hope there are others--I would be interested to hear from people who live in Panama

Born there, raised there!!! I left Panama in 1997 after I married an Army soldier. My parents worked for the Canal Zone schools then for DoDDS teaching. I went back in 1999 for my sister's graduation and a mini-reunion of sorts.

My dad just sent me an article from International Living on the land for sale in Chiriqui provence. It's the old banana plantation on the Atlantic side, if memory serves me correctly.

I wish we could go back and leave the US, but my dh's job skills are not in high demand in Panama plus he speaks no Spanish and I have only given going to work full-time in Panama a glimse of a thought after 9/11. I couldn't make enough money allow to live the lifestyle I was accustom to.

I have a few acquaintances still there. I miss it a lot, especially on days where the weather reminds me of Panama. Or I see overseas locations on the new that look a lot like Panama City.

In case any one also born there and raised there reads this thread:
I was born at Gorgas. I lived in Ancon apartments. I lived in Punta Paitilla, Gamboa, Altos del Gulf, El Carmen, and Curundu. We moved a lot with the political turmoil going on, I was there for the invasion. I graduated Balboa HS in '93 and PCC in '95. And went to Nova till we left.

Why are you asking?

oh yeah!
I lived there for 9th and 10th grades (87 and 88) when my Dad was stationed at Fort Clayton. I went to Curundu and then Balboa (would have been class of 90) and then we moved back to the States...it was right about when the first riots were starting.

Was a great experience! I can see why you miss it so much, Electra!
I married an Army Soldier too (infantry) but he was never stationed there. Met him at my Dad's next duty station.

I would have missed you then. We were in FL from 1980 - 1987. In Sept of '88 we returned and my mother was librarian at BHS.

I don't ever consider myself from anywhere but Panama, all my formative years were spent there. It's like I never left and when I returned although I had never taken Spanish, I picked it up and understood and spoke Spanish fluently within about a year.
