I noticed on Amandasmom thread that there were a few moms here from Tennessee.

I was just wondering how many of us there are from TN.

I live in Wilson County in a little town called Watertown. We are about 45-50 minutes from Nashville. 45 minutes from Murfreesboro and about 45 -50 minyes from Cookville. Were does everyone else live?

I would love to get together with everyone once a month or so.

I'm on the Old Hickory/Hermitage line, I actually live across the street from The Hermitage. It's really really hard for me to "get out" right now because we only have 1 car.. well we have 2 but the other is a 91 Geo Metro so we only use that in case of emergency. I would love to get together too, but travel is hard, sorry

Hi! I'm in McMinnville (Warren County) in the Dibrell area.

The jazz fest sounds like fun! Never been to it. What is it like?

i've never been to the watertown one, but the m'boro one is in may, and is just cool- a very nice place to bring your kids- they're all dancing lookin' cute, there are activities (like the year before last flower planting w/ free marigolds, and last year sam was in a giant sandbox, a booth with instruments for the kids to play, etc.)

my advice: go drink a chai in the coffeehouse on the square so you can use the restrooms- port-a-lets, yuck.

not really, but in the 'davidson/rutherford parent' free handout rags at babies r us, the libraries, etc, there is usually a list of people who are bradley instructors, etc. (i've even seen birth tubs for rent- wish i'd seen it before i bought that too-small horse trough that turned out good for nothing but mixing compost, lol).

good luck blair! suse

hi there all~ I'm in Nashville-
BTW- can anyone recommend a good pediatrician? AP friendly would be great, but I will probably have to settle for someone who respects the parents & has a nice office staff, doesn't take 3 months to get in and see. We are due with our 1st in May & really need to start interviewing- any suggestions, feel free to PM me!

also to Blair/ Seladog- we are starting a Bradley class with Jeannie Casey, it has been a little hard to find an independent class (hospital classes are very big around here) & I really wanted a BFW class, no luck. her website is Nashvillechildbirth.com , she was recommended by my midwife & asst.

blessings, Maria

In response to those seeking birthing instructors and pediatricians -
I have a suggestion for an independent birthing class instructor in the Nashville area- she is a CPM and a doula and has been in the business 20 yrs.

I also have suggestions for Nashville pediatricians - ones suggested by my doula and by a friend who is a pediatrics resident.

But, I am unsure whether it is ok to post the names in the open forum - should I just reply personally to individuals? I don't know why the birthing instructor or the pediatricians would mind my recommending them, but I am sure there are issues of which I am unaware. Maybe someone could enlighten me?

Blair, I don't think that posting anything "positive" is against TOS, but posting openly "negative" comments may leave the door open for slander issues. I'm sure the mods would move or remove a post only if it were necessary.

Having said that, I have used Jeanne Casey as a childbirth instructor. Also, we currently use LeeAnn O'Brien of Centennial Pediatrics as a pediatrician. I can't say that I am overall pleased with the management of the office (common complaint in any doc's office, though) but she is/was a breastfeeding and cosleeping mom herself, so she is both familiar and supportive of AP style, if that is your wish. She was recommended by Jeanne, but is also the closest pedi to us, so that made our decision a bit easier.

In addition to her support of AP'ing, she has been understanding of our decision to selectively vaccinate if not wholly supportive. You're welcome to PM me if you like, or take the plunge and post in open forum.

Hi Doni & Nashville moms~
Funny this thread is active today, bcz I just met with LeeAnn O'Brien today & she was fantastic! Esp. compared to my interview on Monday (see "wacky pediatrician" on the HB board & no I didn't/won't mention a name on the open boards regarding that one, IYKWIM) What a relief to talk to LeeAnn, she even took me to her ofc, not an exam room, I felt like royalty!
Thanks for all your inputs, I think I have a winner!

What a coincidence! LeeAnn O'Brien was also recommended to me. So it seems she is the #1 pick of bfeeding moms in Nashville. (At least in our little world)

Also, Susie Meeks is a CPM, doula, and childbirth educator who is independent of hospitals. Please check her out if you are having a hard time finding a good class in Nashville.

Attn: Nashville/Middle TN moms~
if you are interested in some info about the CNMs/Baptist North Tower controversy, PM me & I can forward some info to you. (if I'm not in labor ) There are some organizational/informational meetings to support midwifery going on that are being ignited by this issue. Don't know what will come of it but thought MDC'ers might want to know.
blessings, Maria
