Almost! Im Dutch, live in the US now, but will be moving to Antwerp early May with dh who is Philipino and ds. So, I will be delivering there too if all goes well, and from my websearches I get the impression that it childbirth is almost more medicalized there than it is here.
Anybody know anything about that / have any experience?
Regardless, I would love to get in touch with mamas/families over there. My family is in Holland, but we know absolutely nobody in Belgium (except my future employer )

IMO it is pretty much the same, just smaller!!! My daughter was actually born in water in Belgium and there is also a homebirth group called Bolle Buik, they have a website. Get in touch with the BCT - Brussels Childbirth Trust which is www.bctbelgium.com and I think Antwerp has a MOMS group!

If you want any more info please PM me I used to live in Brussels and was trained as a childbirth educator there, so have quite a bit of info and know people whom you may find it useful to speak with!!

Have fun

ME ME ME !!!

I've been living in Brussels for 15 years now.

Had a hypermedicalized hospital birth (the norm here) with my first ...didn't know better... then a juicy homebirth with the Bolle Buik midwives with my second. I live in W-S-P. You can meet crunchy people at LLL, BCT is quite clique-y, IMO.

I am working 30 hrs/week but let me know if you want to get in touch!

nice to here some of you stayed some times in Belgium or live there

i had a medicalized birth, with cesarean, but next time (if any), I'll go into a birth's house which is much nicer...
it is possible to have a respected birth in belgium, but I don't know anything in the Flander part...

Calliope, what/where is W-S-P?

I'll prob try to get in touch with the cbt, but will def check in with LLL too. What is a MOMS group? (I know, I'll try to google it later too, just imagine moms is too common of a word..)

I'm actually in Holland with my parents now, and will be checking out houses in the Antwerp/Berchem area in the next few days, I'm soo excited. A bit freaked too, cause I'll have to find/pick one this week and hope dh will like it too

Hey guys, long time no talk.
I'm here now since May. I was seeing a midwife and was going to have a homebirth, but ended up with a CS for transverse position.
Anyways, we're all doing okay, and I'm trying to organize a meet-up here in April. Here is the thread: http://www.mothering.com/discussions...54#post7372754
