We just moved to Lake St. Louis from AZ and I'm having major culture shock. It feels pretty lonely around here. Any like-minded mamas out there?

Naismama-
I was born in Stl but lived in Chicago for 8yrs, when we moved back it was rough. I am married to a Rasta and we have been back for 3 yrs and let me tell you it is very conservative compared to the west and east, and other major cities. We get stared at by everyone in St. Charles county when we go over there. We live in St. Louis county in the Overland area now. The houses are older, but it's a lot more integrated.
My coworkers tease me because I had natural childbirth and pump on my breaks at work. I've always felt as thought culturally and trend wise St. Louis is 10 yrs or more behind the rest of the country.

It is hard, So many people have been there since they were born... Most were born and raised in North county and moved to St charles area when they bought their first house... So it is like a good ole boys club :-(

There is a pretty active group of AP moms (and dads) on yahoo. We meet pretty regularly. A lot of the families are from St. Charles County. It is called StlAPmoms.

Thanks for mentioning that one Nicole... I just joined! I am not in St. Charles county, I'm in south county, but I know how isolating it is. Are you going to the holistic moms meeting tomorrow in Maryland Heights?

I lived in St. Charles for 4 years and just moved into the city last summer. I couldn't take it anymore (and dh works downtown). I went to the St. Peters LLL group and it was a pretty good one although both of the leaders have left there so i'm not sure how it is now. I also was in a food co-op and you can get fresh eggs and meat (not sure if you are a veg) at Bennes Best Meats on 94 near the DQ.

Other than that I don't miss a whole lot about living out there. Well I do miss having the space to garden. Sorry I'm not more hopeful. Perhaps you will have better luck finding ap people than I ever did.

I'm in St. Charles right off the Page extension. I meant to go to the meeting last night but we did a family picnic and I completely forgot about it. I am planning on going next month for sure. Where in St. Charles are you?

Okay, now I know who you are!

That's really a great group. I'm glad it's so close to home, but I'm sad that it meets on the same day and time as the LLL toddler group.

You said you live in Troy- where did you live before that? DH and I are still thinking about Troy (because you can get acreage for cheap). We lived in central Kentucky before moving to STL so I doubt there'd be TOO much culture shock!

Just saw this thread!

I just moved (back) to St. Charles County from Madison, Wisconsin a few months ago. I'm having some culture shock myself. I grew up in this area (St. Peters) but wasn't a mom then, and just didn't realize how mainstream everything is here. Before Madison we lived in Austin, Texas, so this is really an adjustment for me. I'd love to meet more moms in the area! I've met some really nice women, just not a lot of women who share our parenting ideals. And not an intact penis in sight....

Anyway, I'll check out the yahoo group when I get a chance. It would be nice to get to know some of you!

Hi all I'm in St. Peters. I'm a moderator of the stlapmoms group on yahoo. Feel free to jump over there if you haven't already. I'm starting to think maybe we need a St. Charles group and a St. Louis group. There are more and more of us out here. We just need to find each other.
