Just checking to see how many homeschoolers and unschoolers in the Twin Cities are on this board.

We are unschoolers in Bloomington (dd1: 4.5 yo, dd2: 11 months)

Please pass along this info to anyone in the Twin Cities that fits into this style of homeschooling and parenting:
========================
WHAT: Home/Unschool Gatherings
WHO: Unschoolers and very relaxed homeschoolers of *all ages*
WHERE: once a week, meets at parks in all of these areas: Blaine, Bloomington, Fridley, Minnetonka, Oak Grove, South Minneapolis
(Meet indoors during the cold months)
BRING: blanket to sit on, plenty of food/beverages for your family; if desired: knitting supplies or other projects

This is a non-religious intergenerational gathering supportive of attachment/peaceful/respectful parenting for unschoolers and very relaxed homeschoolers. Hang out, chat and play with us--for people of all ages!

The Home/Unschool Groups are inspired by the Dragon Tree Home Learners in Long Beach, California: http://dragontree.vilter.us/

You'll probably find a ton of unschoolers at the MHA Conference on September 29th. Sandra Dodd is the keynote!

There are a few workshops that are in high demand, like "When Good
Homeschooling Goes Bad", "Check It Out at Your Library", and of
course, the "Big Noisy Peace" by Sandra Dodd.

Hope to see you there!

The 2007 MHA Conference is less than two weeks away, on Saturday, September 29! The deadline for early registration at the discount rate has been extended to Friday, September 21. All registrations postmarked by this date will receive the discount rate. If you have already registered at the higher rate, a refund will be made. The registration form is on our website - http://www.homeschoolers.org/annual_conference

It will be a great conference this year! Along with workshops for beginning homeschoolers, there are workshops that experienced homeschoolers will enjoy, such as "Good Homeschooling Gone Bad" and "Big Noisy Peace." There are sessions on homeschooling teens, gifted and talented homeschooling, and special needs homeschooling.

In addition, the Conference's homeschooling resource fair will have over 40 exhibitors, almost all based in Minnesota . These are local organizations, some very well known, with programs or products specifically for homeschoolers. This local orientation makes it unlike any other homeschooling fair.

As a service to the Minnesota homeschooling community, admission to the homeschooling resource fair (but not the workshops or Sandra Dodd keynote) will be free to all. So if you don't have time for the whole conference, come spend an hour or two browsing the resource fair!

Not exactly Twin Cities (about 2 hours southwest, near Mankato and New Ulm), and not quite homeschooling (dd is just 4), but I figured sorta close enough to say something anyway.

Skateville is doing a Mainstream Music (secular) Homeschool Skate on the last Tuesday of each month from 2-4 p.m. This will start on October 30th.
The cost is $4 per person which includes free skate rental. Nonskating infants with nonskating parents are not charged, but everyone else is. Bringing food/beverages isn't allowed.

On October 30th, dress in costume if desired.

Please contact me or Skateville with any questions.

There's a Christian Homeschool Skate on the second Wednesday of the month if that interests anyone.
