This might be in the wrong place.

I have Googled this, gone to birthpolicy.org and ICAN (sadly, the only chapter in the state is in Homer, 14 hrs away from me).

I had a C-Section after a 24+ hr labor. DS was backwards and he got stuck. He was 9 lbs and nearly 2 weeks "late". So, there was no "medical" reason why I cannot have a VBAC...but I want a homebirth for my next child so badly.

Do you know if you can get a midwife for a homebirth VBAC in Alaska or if you just have to do it unassisted(sp)?

Because FMH sucks and I will never, ever go there again.

Thanks!

BTW, 1stimestar, you were my doula! i didn't know you posted on here--hi!

I'm curious about this, too. We may be moving back to AK (to Homer) and will probably have a third child -- and I'd love to try for a HBA2C.

Unfortunately, Direct entry midwives cannot knowingly attend VBACs in Alaska. They would risk loosing their license.

Another option beside unassisted would be to fly in a traveling midwife from another state. I asked around once for another mom and got quite a good response. People want to come visit Alaska.

I'm so glad to see you posting here. I know some midwives that would fly in to do one also. What about going to stay with your mom to have your next? Are you pregnant again yet? Good luck!

No, I wanted to know because we are probably going to have another one sometime. He's ready, I'm not. Not yet--I want to lose some weight! I need to have at least 2 yrs between my kids, I can't deal with two babies at once!

I don't know if my mom would approve of an HBAC.

Ahhh. Well, you might just ask her what her views on it are. When we went for lunch when she was here she was wearing a "trust birth" pin.

this bummed me out too when I was pregnant with my 3rd and wanted a VBAC at the birthing center. Stupid rules ! GRRRR!

So even though I have had 4 successful VBACs (including a 10pounder) I STILL cannot VBAC outside of a hospital unless I go unassisted which DH wont go for.

I just dont really have the funds to fly a midwife here to wait around either.

So, the next best thing is to just become that "underground" midwife who will do VBACs. I'll let you know when I am certified!

She said she wouldn't want a midwife to lose her license for helping with an illegal HBAC in AK.

I don't know the rules about if they were liscensed in a state that allowed it. Perhaps that is a good question for the birth professionals board. I'll see what they say. I just know that the two I know, have NO problems coming to Alaska to do it.

And what if said midwife came from another country? American liscensure wouldn't apply to them regardless.
