Yes, I left Madison May 14th, and arrived in Alaska on May 28th. I drove with my pets and my mom, stopped in South Dakota and spent a weekend at my uncle's house, then stopped for about 4 days in Hillsboro, Oregon at my brother's house. We made it to Blaine, WA and contacted the (hmm, I forgot his title, but the guy who checks CITES permits), and he said we couldn't cross B.C. because there was an outbreak of avian flu. So, we drove down to Bellingham, WA and arrived precisely when a ferry was scheduled to depart for Haines. It was delayed because a car came loose. So we bought our tickets (frighteningly expensive and nearly all the money I'd saved up over a year for moving to Alaska), and loaded up. Me, my mom, two dogs, two cats, four birds, and my van. The ferry trip was 5 days. The weather was gorgeous, sunny, and just windy enough to make me happy. We slept on lawn chairs and ate in the cafeteria. There were breaks when I was allowed to go down to the car deck to walk my dogs, change my birds travel carrier papers, scoop the cat litter boxes, make sure they all had food and water, give motion sickness meds to my caique, Emily, and snuggle with all of them, (all within 15 minutes). I took a lot of pictures and met a lot of very nice people. It was so relaxing. I bet that was the only time I have ever relaxed like that and had so much fun.
