Does anyone know of a free clinic for getting a breast exam. I noticed a lump shortly after delivering my dd and had it checked, they did an ultrasound but found nothing. That was a year ago, the lump seems bigger now and is sore and I am worried but we don't have insurance and we can't afford to pay out of pocket for another ultrasound. Does anyone know of a free or cheap clinic that will check it for me?
I am a nurse practitioner and I work in women's health here in St. L. I recommend going to one of the Federally-Qualified Community Health Centers in the area. Family Care Health Center is probably a good place to start. You could also try calling ConnectCare at (314) 361-CARE. They can probably give you a referral.
For any specialty care (mammogram, breast specialist, etc) you will need a referral from a primary care provider, especially if you don't have insurance. That's why a community health center is a good place to start.
Please PM me if you want more info, or if those ideas don't pan out. We have a referral list at work, but I don't go to work until Thursday. I do know that we send most patients to Family Care or Grace Hill. If you can get ahold of your former ultrasound results to bring with you, that would probably be a big help.
Thank you for your ideas. I left a message with one of the medical resources staff at glida's club st. louis and I am going to try the (314) 361-CARE tomorrow. Thanks again!
