My sister is looking for a midwife that accepts Medicaid in southeast MI. She was referred to Kathy Kleinert by Goldie Parker but the phone number she has for Kathy is no longer in service. Anyone know of either a) a midwife in SE MI that accepts Medicaid or b) have a working phone number for Kathy?
TIA!

The number that I have for Kathy Kleinert is 248 477 2600. I didn't know that she accepted medicaid for births, though. If that turned out to be true, it would be great news!

I don't know of any homebirth midwives in southeast Michigan who accept medicaid as full payment. I would love to find some. There are a lot of us out there, though, who will take extended payment plans or sliding scale.

There are a number of midwives who work in the hospital system who take medicaid. I hear that Metro Partners in Women's Health (through providence) does -- I hope that is true because I like them a lot. I also like the University of Michigan midwives. They are through UofM in Ann Arbor, but there is one office in Canton that may be closer for Wayne Co. folks.

Good luck!

Stacia -- intrepid mama, midwife, and doula. Changing the world one 'zine at a time.

I might have just talked to your sister on the phone : )

I told her the same thing Defenestrator mentioned...unfortunately medicaid doesn't cover homebirths, but that many midwives have sliding scales, so hopefully she'll be able to find something affordable to her. I'm not really familier with the hospital providers in her area, so I wasn't a big help there.

I just heard from 2 other people that Dr Kathy's phone number is no longer in service.

I was a patient at Metro Partners for my daughters birth ('06), and they took Medicaid then.

Metro partners does take Medicaid, I just called them--either straight medicaid or Great Lakes. I have heard Dr. Kleinert does as well. Also the birth center in Lapeer, tho not taking medicaid seems really flexible as to how you can pay and their rate is excellent.
