Anyone familiar with a vaginal granuloma following tear and stitches?

I had a second degree tear and stitches and sometime soon after a 10 week postpartum doctor's visit I developed a granuloma (this extra tissue just inside the vaginal opening).  A few weeks later after I noticed it they had to excise and cauterize it.  It was a fairly good sized piece of tissue- maybe 3/4 inch long and wide.  At the follow-up appointment the doctor didn't get everything and she cauterized it again (cauterized both times with silver nitrate).  Now, there is a little nub and I don't know if I should go back in again (I don't have insurance and doctor was sympathetic and gave me a deal, including a free follow-up).  I have some discomfort and soreness with sex, but don't really know if it's from this granuloma or just from being dry.  My baby is now 21 weeks old.  Anyway, it was explained to me that the layers of skin didn't heal in alignment and that is how I got this extra growth.  I ased the doctor if this was common and she said she never had any patients with this.  Also, I can't seem to find anyone, including my doula and a midwife friend, who has heard about this.  I haven't found anything on the internet either.  So, I probably will just wait it out and see if it is contributing to making sex uncomfortable or not, and because it is such a little piece left, will wait on returning to the doctor. But, because it seems to be unusual, i am wondering if there is anyone who had this or knows about this.  Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I have to go next thursday to have a granuloma removed.  Was the procedure painful?  Was there lingering pain?  Did you have discharge caused by this?

they gave me two shots to numb, those were pinchy, but not bad, and i didn't feel anything for the rest of it.  there really wasn't any lingering pain, i think i just felt a bit sore for a couple of hours.  and discharge? i'm not sure.  the doc used silver nitrate to cauterize, but i remember the doctor saying she was going to use stitches and then changed her mind to the silver nitrate.  so i had some grey goo the next day or two, but there was goo. not a lot.  good luck to you!

I had a small one after #2.  They said I could do something about it or wait it out.  I decided to wait, and, though it took several months (maybe he was closer to a year?), didn't notice it really after that.  I do notice it for quite a while after each birth, though. (2 since him).

I had a significant one and had to have it surgically removed.  They didn't think that freezing or burning it off would be good enough, so the went in (I was under general anesthesia) and removed the tissue, re-opened the tear, and restitched it shut.  I haven't had any issues since then!

I just got back from my Doctor for the same issue. Baby # 2 is 4 weeks old, 2nd degree tearing & a small granuloma. My Doc used the silver nitrate (which burns like hell!) I'm hoping that it goes away & there are no more issues.

I have had a treatment already with silver nitrate. It stung in some areas that were not numbed up by the first two pain relief shots. My granuloma was extensive from a second degree tear, I also had a cloudy white discharge that was caused by it. After my first treatment I noticed some discomfort after sex and thought I should take a look, so I did, and there it was again. I should be going back next week to see my OBGYN. My son is now 4 months and three weeks old.

I just had a granuloma cauterized today. It was on the posterior or rectal side of the vaginal opening where I had a slight level 2 tear during delivery. I too am 10 weeks post partum and after several setbacks (injured tailbone, mastitis and genitourinary atrophy) I was thinking all was healing. And then I noticed that I was still irritated down there and couldn't quite figure out why...I just knew it was red and sore and had thought maybe it was an infection. After my NP examined, she found the granuloma and it was about one inch long by 1/2 inch wide and 1/4 inch thick. She told me the same thing that these women have heard. It will not go away, we must cauterize it. She said granulomas continue to grow and try to "heal" the area even though it may be okay now - like a hyper growth. When she cauterizedd I didn't feel the burn immediately but in about 20 seconds it started to hurt. It hurt so much that I cried a little and then could not sit down on the way out of the office; I could only stand or lay. Tonight I have ice packs and used a lidocaine 2% gel that she prescribed for me. The good thing is from my experience, I know that cauterizing usually heals fast on a mucous membrane. I am just praying it will not scar to the point of making sex painful. I have not tried sex yet. One more thing worth mentioning is that I have felt so tired and weak the past few weeks. The NP thinks that I am suffering from high sustained levels of stress and pain causing my cortisol hormone to remain high and cause weakness and exhaustion.
