Huh, imagine that. Just TELLING a teen to not have sex, while the rest of the culture glorifies it, doesn't work. Funny that.

Considering we have our first CEO CIC I wish he would encourage the govt(s) to run even slightly like a business.

Sex ed programs should reduce unplanned pg & sexual disease... if they don't, no matter how sanctioned by your god they are, they should not be using MY money to pay for them.

I teach my children abstinence but I also tell them about sex and contraception.

In fact I'll tell them anything they want to know about the subject.

We were talking about sex yesterday, in fact. It was quite funny and everyone kept mum when the elementary kids walked through the door but my 12yo thought oral sex was like phone sex and didn't understand why I thought it was real sex (this started out innocently because he wanted me to tell him what "the bases" was in my day.

If I don't tell them about sex someone else will.

They should also include the information needed if kids don't follow for the "Just Don't Do It" order.

I think that's about right, but I seem to recall that my buddies and I had a way more complicated version that factored in oral sex, orgasms and things like that. "Well, I only to second base with her, but I had an RBI."

Wow, I was lame. And I think "was" is stretching it.

That's just about how the conversation evolved. Above the belt, below the belt....what about oral sex?

Like phone sex oral??? He logically thought "Oral"=Mouth=talking about it "talking dirty over the phone" because he heard about "phone sex" and I said, "no" and he asked me to elaborate and I said something like, "one uses one's mouth" now *you* guess and the eyes lit up (and he couldn't imagine anyone doing *that*!!!!

I've had that reaction from slightly pre-teen kids a lot and I tell them someday they'll *want* to do things but they need some self control when the time comes.

It was a funny moment and he suddenly zipped it when his younger siblings arrived from school.

The second annual Day of Purity is a project of Liberty Counsel, a Florida-based public-interest group known for its legal advocacy for traditional marriage in key court cases over the past several years.

Quote:
The Day of Purity is designed to encourage youth to remain sexually pure and counter the message that early sexual activity is healthy and normal. One freshman health textbook tells students that "testing your ability to function sexually and give pleasure to another person may be less threatening in your early teens with people of your own sex".You may come to the conclusion that growing up means rejecting the values of your parents." Other organizations readily admit to trying to steer our youth away from traditional values.

Thought you guys might want to join the DAy of Purity.

I'm married so it's a moot point for me.

My teenagers must choose for themselves.

It's my job to educate them and give them the moral reasons for abstaining from sex.

From SQ's first link:

Quote:
The recent NBC News and People Magazine poll reveals that that half of the sexually active youth engage in oral sex and 43 percent don't consider it as sexual intercourse, even though there are significant associated risks.
The article does not define "sexually active." I assumed it meant genital to genital penetration. Is oral considered "intercourse?"

Next:

Quote:
"Now is the time for every one who is concerned about the moral depravity[sic] of this culture to stand with our youth," said Mathew Staver, president and general counsel of Liberty Counsel. "Millions of youth have rejected the MTV culture. They want to be respected for who they are instead of being viewed as sexual objects to be used or discarded at will."
Just b/c you have chosen to share your body with someone you care about does not mean you are a sexual object to be used and "discarded!"

And:

Quote:
One freshman health textbook tells students that "testing your ability to function sexually and give pleasure to another person may be less threatening in your early teens with people of your own sex.
"One freshman textbook" with no source, note or citation is not very convincing, SQ. I wish you would learn to read more critically.

This article is actually relevant when it comes to educating our children, which is the parents responsibility not the states.

Holy smokes, Day of Purity? What is this, some kind of pagan cult ritual? Is there chanting and casting out of demons and stuff? Do they make a big gold bull and dance around it?

No thanks, I'm a Christian. We believe 'impurity' comes from sin, not from sex.

No, but I think there is either fire or boiling oil involved for sterilization's sake.

Well, not all that relevant. Certainly not relevant beyond normal discussion of sexually transmitted deseases, how to prevent them, and a general of responsible sex.

Or we could only talk to our kids about how their dongle going to fall off if they have sex--that way they won't do it, right?

Pagans wouldn't stoop to such an insult to intelligence, as to think one day devoted to purity would in any way substitute for honesty and care from birth, in giving open, age-appropriate education and advisement of our children regarding use of wisdom and demonstration of respect in practice of their sexuality.

We also model the behavior we seek in our kids.

Thank you for asking.
