GALLATIN, Tenn. - The valedictorian of Gallatin High School is still waiting for his diploma after he tried to steal the microphone at his graduation and deliver the speech traditionally given by the student body president.

Chris Linzy, 18, grabbed the microphone as his name was called out Friday with the rest of his classmates and said about two sentences before he was cut off.
First, what a tool--that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Second, WTF is going on with withholding his diploma? That makes no damn sense.

I can't imagine what difference it would make - he's already been awarded scholarships to attend UT. (I went to college without a HS diploma altogether.) I think it's just an authoritarian insititution's last ditch effort to be in charge, since they don't hold any real authority over him anymore.

BTW, what's up with not having a valedictory address? Aren't those pretty standard? I might be annoyed if I were him, too. You work hard for years to get excellent grades, and the popular kid who gets voted in by the class gets to talk instead? Whatever.
