So at midnight, after 12 hours of constant pain, the petite, 40-year-old mother of six sat down on a low wooden bench. She took several gulps from a bottle of rubbing alcohol, grabbed a 15-cm knife and began to cut.
Interesting, though it never says *why* she needed a c-section.

It just said after 12 hours of pain, it may not have been 12 hours of labor. It also did say she had 6 other births before, so I'm thinking she probably felt something was not right. Of course who knows, maybe it was something a midwife could have helped correct. I'm sure no one will ever know.

This happened about 7 years ago. I am certain we had a thread about it a couple years ago. I guess it's just one of those things that keep circling the internet.

Are you certain this is the same case, and not another one? The date on the article is 2008.

We discussed something twice? I'm shocked!

There is a wiki article on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In%C3%A9s_Ram%C3%ADrez

I think its because this is a blog post or something, so the date on the post is current, but if you google for something like "woman performed cesarean on herself", you'll find it did happen in 2000.

Does the reason really matter? I believe that it is pretty safe to say that this is one case where the necessity of the C/S really can't be debated since I can hardly imagine that she did it becuase she was too posh to push! And dang that's one brave woman - I have a hard time removing my own splinters!!!

That is insane. I'm glad she lived through it though, I can't imagine ever resorting to something like that.

Was it a repeat? I hear about this every two to three years.

Damn you'd think the rubbing alcohol would have killed her if the surgery didn't.
