An armed man opened fire on worshippers in a Unitarian church in Knoxville, Tennessee, during a children's play Sunday, critically wounding seven people, police and church members said.
Honestly.. I don't think the world is getting any worse.. I just think there are more people and information travels faster and further so you hear about things more.
Today's service was an intergenerational service. The children of the congregation were putting on a play. fortunately none of the children were shot. But they were witness to the brutality.
I haven't posted in so long but after I came back from church this morning I logged on- I needed some good people to share sorrow after watching the on-line news.
I am a member of Portland Oregon, First Church (Unitarian Universalist) It was announced this morning that our Sister Church in Tennessee was the victim of a shooting.
I haven't been able to get any other information than what people have posted on line. The suspicion is that since this congregation recently posted a sign that they are a Welcoming Congregation (Open to Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered People); that this might be a hate crime.
In the past there have been Universalists martyred for their beliefs. Could this be happening again due to bigotry?
I am so often to proud of UU's and how they raise and love their children, how they accept people of all types, how they fight for justice and how they love peace. Portland 1st Church hosted the General Assembly last year and I remember meeting some folks from Tennessee. I don't know if they were effected.
All the children in that play watched while their parents and family were shot.
I am filled with sorrow for such tragedy and injustice.

I'm so sorry. What a lousy thing to learn on the news.
