Definitely been too heavy on carbs I think - up 2-2.5 pounds since last week alone and 18 pounds total now at 26.5 weeks. Going to try to up the protein and exercise a bit and dial back the carbs a notch.

My MW said 60-80 of protein too.

I think I am officially up 9 pounds, at 24W3D. : Was hoping not to gain any. Oh well. I guess it was inevitable, right.

wow! reading these is really making me feel like i am gaining too much weight. at 24 weeks i have gained about 26 pounds. i started out at 112 pounds and am 5'4". judging by what you all have gained i'm starting to feel like this is abnormal. i gained 60 in my last pregnancy and don't want to gain more than that this time. should i be concerned?

I'm 26w4d and stepped on the scale today. +25.

I really dont' understand because I had a rough start and then maintained very well. I haven't been eating fast food nearly as much, cut out all the juice, concentrating on water......

I know the baby grows, but seriously!?!?!?! I mean if I were 100lbs to begin with, I could justify that. But not this.

I just had this conversation with DH today.

Married to my best friend, expecting #1 6/09. Little angel came early- 4/10/09, 2lbs 5oz. Lilah Grace:

Queen B - it doesn't sound like you are on pace to gain more than 60 pounds - so if you are ok with that and as long as your diet is good (for the most part) with a little exercise I wouldn't be concerned. I only gained 24 pounds with DD and would like to keep this pregnancy under 30 as well, partly for medical reasons.

Musiclady - hard to say why. If you are concerned/upset maybe post menus from the past few days and we can see if we see anything? We can start a new menu thread if anyone wants.

I'm really making an effort to cut back on the mindless granola snacking and cut back on carbs (somewhat) overall. Today I've had

B: one sunny side up egg on one piece whole wheat toast (egg cooked in bit of butter and bit of coconut oil); 2% cottage cheese w mixed berries and cinnamon
S: half a grapefruit and 20 almonds
L: planning large salad w spinach, carrots, cukes, tomatoes, avocado, tiny bit cheese, mushrooms, lentils and brown rice
D: cooking miso glazed black cod w mashed taters and green beans
S: probably granny smith apple and PB
E: will do light resistance training and transverse ab exercises today as well as housecleaning

I'm sure I'll have a spoonful of Nutella somewhere too though - can't seem to resist the stuff!

Happy mama to DD (8-11-05) and DS (6-5-09) and married to my best friend and love of my life since 10-13-01.

QueenB--

I am 27 weeks and have probably gained over 30 pounds (way too busy to check lately). I too gain over 50 pounds when pregnant--and am not that big to begin with. with the first two, it came off quickly, and I actually had trouble keeping weight on. I wouldn't worry about it. So long as you won't have a really hard time losing, or grow a 12 pound baby, I am sure you are fine. Everyone is different! I honestly don't really eat a huge amount and I exercise, my body just seems to pack on some storage fat when I am pregnant.

9 lbs is nothing! What are you worried about?? Maybe I am missing something here. Are you seriously hoping not to gain ANY weight?

Stand back while we throw tomatoes... Only 9 pounds??!?!?!?? Wait- are those low-carb tomatoes?

I think as long as we are taking care of our bodies and trying to be healthy (and things look good for the baby) we'll be okay. I keep reminding myself that a lot of the weight is BABY (yeah, like 2.5 pounds) but a lot of it is FLUID. And my husband always reminds me: Honey, you're going to lose at least 10-15 pounds IN ONE DAY. I was almost a 9 pound baby. Can't imagine how much the fluid all weighs.

Dunno... I'm trying to not stress. And I just don't think I want to hear my doctor fuss about it. Pregnant ladies gain weight. It's reality, doc. You did it too.... I like my doctor, though- as long as I'm doing okay, I have every confidence that if I *work* I will lose it. Or at least most of it.

I am probably going to loose more before my appointment because I have a nasty virus right now.

I weighed myself yesterday at WIC (where I work), and I was 118. I started out around 100-105, so that's about 13-18 lbs in 23 weeks.

For those who think they've gained too much.. I have several friend who gained more than 60 lbs in their PG, and they are right back down to normal (or less) now! Don't worry.. just make sure you're getting everything you need to grow a healthy baby.

Well, I guess I would worry if you are ONLY eating fast food for all your meals, and nothing healthy..

I have gained 0 at 26 wks, BUT I am overweight!

My last pregnancy I started at a healthier weight and gained 60 lbs! Part of that was due to a crappier diet the last part of my pregnancy

My pregnancy before that I gained 10 (again overweight)

My first pregnancy I lost 30 b/c of being so sick (and overweight! LOL)

I have gained and lost the same few lbs this pregnancy depending on how clean my diet is that month. But baby is growing and bouncing!

I have gained 17 pounds and will be 25 weeks tomorrow....5 of those pounds were literally in the last couple of weeks! My midwife would prefer if I only gain about 6 more pounds...but that doesn't sound realistic to me....I am a big-boned girl, but have never been obese by any means.... i started out about 165 pounds and 5'7 which sounds like a lot but you'd never be able to guess my weight by looking at me.

I just stepped on the scale and realized that I've gained 29 pounds!!! I feel like I'm eating well, but have noticed that I'm eating A LOT! I'm going to keep a food journal to see what and when I'm eating (and how much!). It may help to start this now so I can lose all this weight after Roo is born!!!

EDIT: By the way mommy's who have gained a lot, with my first I gained 75 pounds!!!! Yep. That's right. It took some effort, but I lost it, so don't get too nervous about what you can't change now!

At 26 weeks, I'm up 23 lbs. It's really weird though because the last month or so I've followed a pattern of gaining about 3 or 4 lbs (all at once!!!) then maintaining that weight for about a week, then losing 2 or 3 lbs and maintaining that for a week until the next big jump. So I was actually 2 lbs heavier last week than this week, and this the 3rd time in a row I've followed that pattern.

It's great to hear that other people have gained a lot and been able to lose it. I feel like I've put on way too much right now, but it's nice to hear I'm not totally abnormal!

24 pounds at 27 weeks. I am definitely gaining more weight with this pregnancy than I did with my other three (I am also measuring big). I try not to worry about the scale b/c I was underweight to begin with, but at the same time, I am really, really scared she is going to be huge! Must stay away from the chocolate

I am up 20-25 pounds at 27 weeks. I was bouncing around between 150 and 155 when I got pregnant and I am around 175 now. I actually haven't gained anything in a month or 2... not sure why, I am eating the same and all that. Not too worried about it.

148 lbs at .. um .. 28 weeks today.
I started out at ~135 lbs, so I've gained ~13 lbs so far. I don't weigh myself normally but my usual is around 135.

I don't know, it must be roughly 15lb, but when the midwife asked me to step on the scale on Tuesday I was obviously in a "don't think before you speak" mood as I promotly replied "if I do that, I may not eat for a week". So she said we didn't need to bother and wouldn't do it in future! If it was that easy to not do it, you've got to wonder why they are doing it!

Western medicine is a bit obsessed with everything to do with pregnancy, that's for sure. But excess weight gain in the mother can lead to both gestational diabetes and high weight babies which can cause problems during delivery.

My Midwife actually hardly ever weighs me. She says that unless your eating a really crappy sugar diet that how much you gain and how big the baby is is almost always a genetic set point. I guess in WW2 during the nazi camps, it would take years of starvation in the mothers before the size of the baby could be affected. And then typically the women just couldn't get pregnant.
Interesting huh?
I just know how much I weigh cause I have a scale here, and I peek every once i awhile!
