When are you due??

SOON! June 7th. Though maybe sooner if my blood pressure goes up

Are you choosing to find out the sex or have a surprise??
a surprise! many are telling me its a girl I think because its funny for folks to imagine me with a pink-tutu-loving girl (I'm *really* tomboyish and not girly at all) and that I'm a little afraid of having one The comments have started to get annoying such that I worry if I do have one all my friends/coworkers will buy pink things just to irritate me! But I think Ill do fine as a mom either way and just hope the baby is healthy!

Is this your first child??

yes

Where are you from??
was born in NYC, but have been in MA now for a while (highschool in western MA, and then college at MIT and now living in Cambridge still)

Do you have any hobbies??
yah, lots! I play a lot of sports (ultimate frisbee, ice hockey) and bike a lot, and run (ran the boston marathon in 2004) cross country ski (like the backcountry of VT best)

I also am a nerd, and play on the computer a fair amount

I also garden, and love to can my own tomato sauce and caponata, and I quilt and knit.

If you could pick one place to travel where would you go??
I really want to bike across nova scotia, to cape breton (wanted to do it before pregnancy, but never got the time to, the mr. and I do a lot of long bike-vacations so it would have been great to do!) And I also want to try xc skiing in either Iceland or Norway.

Tell us something unique about yourself.
Even though I am >37wks and pretty big belly-wise, was able to play disc on Tuesday and run pretty damn fast and am still biking 120-140miles per week. I struggled w/ an eating disorder several years ago and have a rather hate/love relationship w/ my body, but this pregnancy has definitely given me an appreciation for my body that I hope remains postpartum as well. I feel like there's no way I can ever hate how big/heavy it is given how its let me do so much this pregnancy!

Do you have any names picked out?

What are your "plans" for this birth?

so we had a name to call the baby during pregnancy, we've been calling it 'Z' (since its so easy to swap in Z for he/she, and we didn't want to use 'it' so much! So when looking for names, we looked at a lot of Z names. Zia, Zoe, Ziva for a girl (although also Marina, Elia, and some non-Z names) and then for a boy, Zanthos (or Xanthos), Zandros, Zephiros, Teos. (The mr. is very greek, and has a super-greek last name, so these all actually nicely match w/ his last name!)

but we'll see, we are very divided. The mr. grew up w/ a very unusual greek name so he wanted a similar thing for a kid (no michael or henry, nothing 'normal') but I have only a slightly unusual name so I worry about saddling a poor child with some of his options! I liked also the greek versions of Zachary, which is my older brothers name as well, but the mr. wasn't as big a fan. I don't think we are doing a middle name. I didn't change my last name, but I'm letting the mr. use his with our child/ren since he's an only child and it was important to him (my italian last name is uncommon, but I know it'll be carried on by my cousins/brothers/etc)

'plans' - I luckily tested negative for Group B Strep, meaning if my water breaks early on I can still labor at home for a while which is good. I took a hypnobirthing class, but actually think my yoga practice will be as if not more helpful. I hope to go unmedicated, but am prepared for things to go wrong and dealing with the results if that does happen. I secretly hope I start labor while on my bicycle since that's how the mr.'s mother's labor started with him! Given that I spend a lot of time on the bike, its not too far-fetched. Or on the frisbee field

I honestly wouldn't worry too much about unique names these days. The trend towards unusual names has been growing steadily for at least a couple decades, and I don't think kids really perceive names the way we did growing up. When I went through school, I was one of five Lisas in almost every class. We also had 3-5 variants on Cathy almost every year. DS1 has never had more than two of any name in his classes, though. They're all different...and he's gone to school or Scouts with a Justice and a Jihad.
