I think I may have, too. I visited a public alternative school yesterday and it's right in our neighbourhood! The thing that struck me the most was how confident the kids were. They knew that they would be listened to so had no qualms about speaking up and looking adults in the eye. The difference between these kids and the kids I see at the playground was remarkable. I know as parents we can instill these qualities in our kids but I worry that most schools would just drum it right out of them. I'm so excited!

I hope you kids enjoy the school.

I believe there is a school for every child. Sudbury was too free form for my kids. They need a bit more structure.

It is wonderful to see your children thrive in education. I love watching both my children who are school aged. One is in French Immersion public school and one is learning at home with me. Liz, that is great that the alternative school is near your home. We can walk to dd's school, and it is a real community-builder for us.

How about this sudbury school...it's in Bowie/Upper Marlboro, so I think it would be just under and hour for you...plus you might be able to use marc train and carpool in some fashion...

I'm definately looking at it, the one near us. It wouldn't be until high school. We're going to homeschool at least until then and then maybe give them some options.
