As far as I know, they are determined by individual districts.

I don't know if this is federal law, or if it is guided state by state, but bussing is a convenience offered by school districts to their students. I believe the special education students serviced in a special day class do have to be bussed, but I'm not entirely clear on the law and how it works. Why?

It depends on the state. Here, they're required to bus if you live over a certain distance (either a half mile or a mile) from the school; they also have to bus to a private school within 10 miles.

With many districts facing severe budget cuts, bussing has become a luxury that some cannot afford. I've heard of parents paying 200-300 a yr. for bus service.

Call your transpotation supervisor at the bus garage. He/She can give a clear reason why and if there's anything you can do get back on the route.

I live near an area that used to bus students.

Parents got together and sued the school district. They won. The district had to stop busing and now students go to neighborhood schools.

That probably doesn't help you know but it's good for thought!

I also think the rules change by district.

In my town, if you live over 1.5 miles away, or if you have to cross a 4 lane major road to get to school, you get to take the bus.

However, beginning this year, we have to pay for it
I have to shell out $180.00 by next week.
