We live in a rural area near Port Townsend... and we live in an older, uninsulated manufactured home! Ugh! It's an oven in here! We made it to storytime at the library to take advantage of the A/C, but that only lasts an hour. But, I'm getting lots of sympathy from anyone who's ever been pregnant in the summer!

I am having a hard time today... dealing with the fact that I am still pregnant and it is just frustrating! *sigh*

Does anyone know... it has been 12 years since I had a baby... will I still labor like a woman having her second child or has it been long enough that my body will be like it is the first time (in other words taking a LONG time to labor)??

I hit 40 weeks today! My ex-step-dad (lol) is convinced that I'll have the baby today. (a "feeling" he has) I have no desire to prove him wrong. LOL

I'm hoping that William will decide to come out within the next week. I've got my eye on the full moon.

Really hoping to go before I hit 41 weeks on next Thursday though. That's when the midwives will want to do a u/s to check the placenta/fluid/etc and I just don't want to mess with it.

No personal experience here, but my mom had 8 years between births Her mw said anything beyond 7 years would be more like a first labor... and it was. But my mom attributed it to being older, rather than the interval between the births. Sorry, not very encouraging... it was still a great labor, just took a bit longer to get going.

Is your older DC going to watch the birth? I was 12, and got to see my brother being born. It was a great experience for me, and since my mom was an awesome natural birther, gave me a wonderful first-hand understanding of how normal birth can be!

Thanks. I had heard this before... that over 8 or 9 years is like the first time. That doesn't make me really thrilled though. LOL!

Also, yes, the plan is for our daughter to be there (here at home)... though I drew the line at catching the baby. She wanted to catch. I said no. LOL! But she can support and watch

I was wondering about this too as my youngest is 5.5 years old.
I am 40w5d and went to acupuncture again today to try to move things along. Nothing yet!

*sigh* So I thought I was doing good because today is my due date and I wasn't getting any calls. That was shot to heck about an hour ago. LOL My dad called again. He called yesterday too. He ended the call by saying if he ends up calling every day it's just because he's excited. Ok, I'm glad he's excited. This is grandchild #6 for him and I really truly am glad that it's so great to him. I know that some people have families that could care less after the first few. BUT I've never gotten along really well with him and do best when we don't talk for a while. (divorced, not there much when I was little, etc) ANYWAY. I'm just not looking forward to hearing from him every. day. until the baby gets here. : I'm impatient enough to meet my son, I don't need to wish he's just show up so my dad would stop calling. LOL
Dad is the kind to pull guilt trips and pout (doesn't work with me, but still a pain to deal with) so I hate to do something to prevent him calling or avoid the calls. Guess I'll just put up with it.

Thankfully, no one else is calling me. Yet.

Oh, one more "complaint". I knew this was a possibility when we decided to name the baby William, but my dad already tried to call him "Willie". Grrr. I hate that nickname. On top of that, I have a cousin (my cousin's son) William (he's about 16 now) and they always called him Willie. Why would you reuse the nickname???? I plan on just calling him William and hope that it catches on. If not, I'll use one of my "acceptable" nn's and see if that catches on. I'm dead set on my side of the family not using Willie though. It's bad enough that I'm named after my Uncle Lee. It's such a pain to go to a family thing and never know if people are talking to you or the "other" one. :

(as to why use William when my cousin is William-- William was my grandpa's middle name and is a old name on my side of the family. It also runs on DH's side and so was very important to us. )

LOL! We went through that with my son Liam. The plan was to name him William until everyone started calling him Willie. Willie Walters... blech! So we just dropped the Wil and kept the end half.

I'm also (finally) at 40 weeks today! I'm moving past the end of pregnancy crazies though. Last weekend I was at the point where if I could have reached up and pulled baby out, I would have. The next step was begging my midwife friend to strip my membranes and tip me into labor, which she reminded me is what I usually call the "dark side of midwifery". I'm glad we planned on waiting until later in the week, because now I am very much at peace about letting my body and baby labor when they are ready on their own without any outside prodding. It's funny, just two months ago I wrote up a paper to hand out to clients about how choosing homebirth is about choosing to trust birth and how hospitals are for inductions and here I was thinking I could outsmart such a brilliantly balanced system!

My one complaint is my freaking MIL. On dozens of occasions during this pregnancy I've made it clear that I don't want her at my birth and that she will not be watching my boys during the birth. So on Tuesday, she calls me up to ask me if I think I will be having the baby the next day so that she can talk to her coworkers about taking her shift so she can watch my boys. Seriously???? I let such hell loose on her manipulative, self-serving butt that I hope this won't come up again, but I have a feeling she will keep trying. She somehow managed to show up at my other two births (one hospital, one home) even though she had been asked not to and both times my labor stalled out for an hour or so. Bah! But then I am not surprised as this is the same woman who ON MY HONEYMOON tried to talk her way into being invited to a romantic dinner a family friend had set up for DH and I.

Other than that, all is good, nesty, and contraction-full. I'm glad my patience has returned for the time being

41 weeks today and I have found some peace and patience. My rational mind has finally taken over and I realize that this baby will be born at just the right time. Have been having some prelabor the last couple of nights and I feel reassured that my body is preparing and that I will be meeting my sweet new baby sometime soon.

Are you guys going to move to the August DDC? I feel comfy here. I know I am not a huge poster, but I have read most of the threads and "know" you guys. I only have 3.5 hours till this baby will be an August baby

I am trying to be patient. I am trying to be content that the baby knows what she needs.

I am scheduled to "talk" about an induction on Tuesday and I am so dreading that.

I walk, have sex every night, have tried stimulating my nipples and got contractions that fizzled out ... I so want to hold this baby so bad!!!!

I am trying so hard not to care ... but man I am so ready to start life again. I feel like this waiting is pausing everything.

I know what you mean... I feel like everything is in limbo until this baby shows up. Everything is on hold while we wait for his arrival and I just want to move on and learn how to be a mama of two.

Since I was due July 30th I've been posting over in August for some time, just in case. I'm going to stick around here too though.

I had an appt with the chiropractor today. Had a nice adjustment, got my round ligaments dealt with, and then she did some acupressure on me. It would be nice if labor would start, but I'm not counting on it.

I'm looking forward to taking Colleen to bed soon. I'm cranky and ready for today to be over with. lol

Had what I thought were good productive contractions overnight and I was like "yes, finally".

Stopped when I got up this morning.

My last child was 12 days old by now and my first was 9.

41 weeks today.

Totally in limbo here. I expected this baby about 2 weeks ago.

I see no reason to move DDCs! We were due in July and even though we will birth in August... why would I even think of moving? Nope, never even thought of it. P.S. baby... please GET OUT!

*sigh* I'm so glad though that there is more than just me still sitting and waiting. I totally thought, being due on the 30th, that we would get into August and I would be the last preggo standing!

It was comforting for me to look at a calendar yesterday and see that even if I go to 42 weeks (hopefully I don't go over that again like last time), that means there is only one full Sunday to Saturday week left and a handful of days on the side. That means only one or two more times: mopping the floor, deep cleaning the bathroom, vacuuming like a madwoman, cleaning mirrors, and trips to the grocery store before baby is here and I can hand over the housekeeping baton for a couple weeks. I can totally handle that. It also means only one more round of keeping the fridge stocked with snacks for birth attendants and having to be mindful of that. Totally puts things into perspective.

"each day is one day less until the birth"

My sweet DH reminded me of that yesterday morning. It was so nice to hear. LOL I keep telling myself that. "one day closer, one day closer"

I feel you, Mama. I am 41+3, so we're in the same boat. I've not had anything beyond Braxton Hicks (but I've been having them my entire PG since I use Red Raspberry Leaf tincture) and some practice contractions that once in awhile make me think maybe something is happening.

I've decided to forgo any cervical checks unless I go waaay past due and am facing induction or if I think I might actually be in labor. I'm afraid mentally it will hinder the process - getting overly excited that something seems to be happening or worse, not seeing much dilation at all and get discouraged.

It is really hard. DH and I have been mentally prepared to go beyond our EDD, but it's much harder when you actually get here. Everyday feels like marching toward a dreaded deadline for me. I hate that feeling. I'm doing my best to stay mentally strong and confident and positive.

What's crazy is my sister's EDD is/was exactly one month later than mine, but she has a history of delivering at 38 weeks. Considering I am about to be 2 weeks 'late', we're probably going to deliver realllllly close together : ) I talked to her yesterday and she's already dilated 2-3 cm. I told her at the same time is fine, but before me is NOT fair! ha ha.

Hang in there - it should be any day now for us!

Declan James arrived at 12:31 am Sunday Aug 2 after a fast and furious labour. He was 8 lb 7 oz for all my worries about him being huge at 41+1. I would say it was my most difficult labour though as it just went so fast. No break at all in the contractions between 5 and 10 cm.

He is very sweet though!

Congrats!!!

I'm still here and pregnant at 40 weeks 3 days. Midwife appointment tomorrow. I've had a decent amount of painful contractions lately. Nothing going anywhere though. Last night I had two that were really hard to get through. Woke up extra times with a contraction. So, I think I'll finally ask to be checked at my next appt. We have an hour drive to the birth center and I'd like to have an idea of how far along I am before labor has started. If nothing is going on, great, I have more time. If I'm dilated at all, I'll take that into account when deciding when to head out.
Oh, and I'm getting some pink when I wipe too. I know it doesn't mean anything time wise, but it's nice to see something going on. LOL

I'm still here at 40 weeks and 5 days. I did take castor oil this afternoon... 2 1/2 hours ago, but I took it for 2 reasons. #1 I am constipated and haven't gone in 3 days and #2 I figured if I need something, might as well take castor oil just in case it starts labor. We'll just see. LOL!

How did your castor oil work out? Just curious. My sister swears by it. I'm holding off and reserving it for my absolute last resort if I get too far along and am threatened with being induced (I'm 41+4).

WELL..... the castor oil cleaned me out (though not as viciously as I had read about online... I took 2 ounces of it at 4:30 pm)... it did give me contractions last night, but I was able to sleep through all but 2 of them. This morning I am having contractions but since the castor oil was totally out of my system by 8:30 pm last night I don't know if it has ANYTHING to do with it or not, or if these are 'real' contractions or not. So my view on castor oil is... I have no idea. But at least I am not constipated anymore!!! Yippee!!! LOL!

40+4 here. I couldn't sleep last night between my almost 3 year old being wakeful and clingy and these weird, regular hormonal rushes I kept getting. Every hour on the :14 I would have like these really crazy hot flash/uterine tightening/tingly/sexy rushes that would fill me with energy. It reminded me of things I'd read in Spiritual Midwifery, but I swear I wasn't stoned like I know those mamas were. Around 2 they started coming closer together. Very strange. Still are happening, but I've been too delirious to time them. I did check my cervix and baby is much lower and cervix has effaced some more, so I guess something is going on, even if it isn't labor. Weird, weird, weird.

Today is the day my 5 year old said the baby will be born (he has an amazing talent with knowing when animals will birth and how many) and it is my grandmother's birthday so it would be kind of cool if things happened, but I'm not holding my breath that things will. Besides, I'm really hoping that even if they do happen it waits until after dinnertime tonight so I don't have to miss my grandmother's birthday party.
