Okay, I didn't think I was going to, but I'm joining in on the name questions. DH and I both like the name Mildred. It is at the top of our long, undecided girl's name list. I love the nickname Millie, and the fact that Mildred is recognizable but not popular (one of our major criterea for a name). I hate the reaction that it is an old lady's name. Old ladies were little girls once too, and they didn't change their name to fit their age! I just wonder about too much teasing with this name. What do you think?

lol, I understand!!! I had to eliminate the name "Sage" because my brother knew someone named Sage who was a total wiener (his words). I don't want a name that has negative connotations for anyone in our immediate family!

I like it! But then I was looking at Matilda for one of our possible names, so I am also liking that more old fashion but not currently trendy names myself.

BTW Milicent is cute!

Milicent sounds kind of like a disease to me... but it might grow on me. I'll have to see what DH thinks.

I voted no. I love old fashioned names for girls, but I don't think Mildred is one of the "pretty" old fashioned names. It ranks with names like Bertha and Agnes and Edith, I think. I don't like that the sound of the word "dread" is in the name. But like others have said, I love Millie. Amelia is a great suggestion. The worst she'd have to deal with would be being called "Amelia Bedelia."

I voted "not for me," mostly because it's my grandma's name. While I love my grandma, she's kinda nuts and I wouldn't want to saddle a little one of mine with my family's memories of her.

However, I think it could be a great name for your family if you guys like it. I think the nickname Millie is sweet.

Totally crashing your DDC here but I have a Millie. Her Name is Millicent Jane. We call her Millie or Millie Jane. Everyone assumes her name is Mildred. We get "who is she named after?" and " I have a great Aunt Millie" a lot. I think my husband and I are the only two people on the planet not to have a great Aunt Millie we just liked the name! One month after she was born they introduced the character on One tree hill named Millicent/Millie I was so ticked off! I think Mildred is adorable, I liked Millicent only slightly more! I have to say we get great reactions to the name people seem to like it.

Thanks for crashing! I appreciate your feedback. No one in our family is named Mildred, we just like the name! The middle name is reserved for a family name... probably Hannah, Sarah, or Alice.

I agree. I like Amelia or even Millicent, but I don't really like Mildred.

Kids will find something, or make something up if there isn't anything to be found. My SIL is named Mary. She was teased as mary mary quite contrary and mary canary through elementary school. My DH is Owen, he was teased about his name because it was different back then.

Also not in your DDC, but I voted "not for me." I really like Millie, but not Mildred. I would go with another full name like:

Millicent
Amelia
Melissa
Emily
Milan
Miela ("miel" means "honey" in Spanish)

Amy loving DH 5/04, raising DD 2/05 and DS 11/09; missing my mom& my babies 6/07, 12/07; and on the side

Try Millicent instead.

Same nickname, easy to spell and say but not as old lady sounding as Mildred. The dred part in Mildred bugs me.
