Wiggle! Jiggle! Squiggle! And other things that end in -iggle.

How is everyone this week? Happy and healthy and staying excited I hope.

~~~~~~~~
The abx seem to be helping with the contractions so I'm assuming they're helping with the bladder infection too... and remember, bladder infections in pregnancy can be totally symptom free so if you start having contractions or feeling a bit off, ask your care provider to test your urine sample for an infection. It only took a moment and if they catch it soon enough you wont need to do the whole abx thing.
Ok, PSA over.
DH got back from his camping trip late last night so hopefully tonight I'll get some sleep. Though this morning our dog was sick all over the first floor so despite the contractions and my own stomach upset I spent a good chunk of time on my hands and knees scrubbing the floor and washing the rugs. Ugh. Might be good for getting the babe into position but not something I'd like to make a habit of! But then dd2's therapist arrived and DD2 got a new chewy tube as a birthday gift from the therapy group. Yup... my "baby" is two years old today! Yoicks!
Of course, the code officer dropped by while the therapist was here to remind us that the paperwork needs to be in this week. Sigh. I liked the chewy tube gift more.
But we'll probably have a cake tonight, and DH has said he'll dig the sandbox (we're using some of the felled wood to make the wall of the sandbox, so we need to dig a moat to hold the wood and I just can't do it)... which is good since dd2's gifts are mostly sand box related!
Yay for the Abx working, I hope you are feeling a lot better. I bet you can't believe that your little one is 2.
As for me, my husband and I had a really productive weekend. I am still just spilling with happiness from it this morning. We finally cleared out the office/computer room (it's the soon to be baby room). He really rocked it out, I might add. We also got his computer (for working) set up in the laundry/now slash office room and the mac set up in the kitchen by the living room. I love the new set up.
We went to buy our crib and dresser yesterday but found out there will be a big sale 4th of july weekend, so we are going to wait until then to get it. We still have tons of things to get, but we really got some major stuff started. Everything seems so much closer and more real now. Oh yeah, did I mention how much my groin hurts from doing so much yesterday. I actually don't mind the burning, because it reminds me of what we accomplished.
Also, last week I passed my GT test and got my RHogam shot. I go for my 30 week appt. next monday.
I hope everyone else is doing well and I can't believe some of you ladies have less than 2 months left!!!!
We started painting yesterday! At least, my husband did while I was away for the afternoon shooting a beautiful 12 day old! I don't think I can post the link, though, since it is spam? I am the only one in Boulder, it is not spam , it is just my life. Here is one photo if anyone cares. I know I love seeing newborn pics I have another set of newborn twins to shoot this Friday, so I am totally psyched. Tomorrow I am shooting a 5 week old, and then a 4 month old on Wed. So many babies!!!
Anyways, it is getting hard for me to do much. I am so tired half the time. Drinking a coke really gets me up to do what I need to do, is that awful? I am not as good with this pregnancy as I was with ds. I hope I am not ruining my baby!
Ds is in camp, so I am just trying to get stuff done. I am so behind and so tired. I woke up at 6am bc dh had NPR playing to loud downstairs. I am the only pregnant lady in the world that can't get a good night's sleep bc her husband is blasting his public radio. Grr.
I'm doing pretty well I guess. I'm really exhausted, my mw checked my iron and it's a little low, but the chewable iron she gave me makes me really queasy. I'd rather be tired than nauseous. I did a finger poke instead of a GTT and my blood sugar is well within normal as suspected. My sciatica hasn't been too horrible, though the baby does push on me sometimes so hard it feels like there is a knife in my belly. I got this weird looking mark awhile back (I thought it was a stretch mark), and it turned out it was an actual BRUISE from her pushing on me, becuase it's gone now. I didn't know that was possible! But I am pretty sure it was from her pushing because it was in the exact spot I had been feeling all that pressure back when I posted that it felt like my belly was going to explode.
My garden is huger than it's ever been, I have uh...an embarrassing number of things in containers...something like 15 containers plus a raised bed most of it is doing pretty well.
My MIL bashed me over us having a homebirth...I'm pretty upset over the way she treated me. I posted about it in the homebirth forum. *sigh*
Ok, I have to go run some errands. I'm sure I have more to say. Talk to you ladies later
Happy birthday Ro!
I love the newborn baby shoot pictures, they are so sweet.
Is anyone working on a birth plan? I have a really simple one for my HB MW (she asks for one) and I'm working on a transfer one just in case. I had a great one last time but cannot find it anywhere! Any ideas? I started a thread on it here: http://www.mothering.com/discussions....php?t=1095858
I pretty much have everything I need for baby and HB at this point. When do you all start washing the baby clothes and diapers? I'm thinking around 35-36 weeks so they will be fresh.
I'm going to wash my loads of clothes as soon as I have a place for them (temporary or permanent). My brother and nephews are coming to visit mid-July, so I thought I might have my two youngest nephews help sort the clothes if I haven't done it already. They are 8 and 9, and still like to be helper bees. Last year they went crazy over being paid a dollar in quarters for cleaning up dog poop in the yard, lol! I have boxes and boxes of hand me downs, but all the outfits are going to get mixed up when I wash them, and the sizes are already mixed up I started trying to get our bedroom ready for the crib side car, but could only deal with the mess on the floor (I'm a total packrat, and I have several stacks of stuff and unfinished projects in the corner, yuck) for an hour until I was exhausted. I think I had a bh contraction at that point too. My lower uterus seemed to become tight for a minute or so. The good news is I found a dry erase board for the fridge amongst the stuff I did clean up and made a list of goals for the week. Hopefully DH will get the hint that he can help on these too without me having to ask/nag. I also made a week countdown to baby at the bottom of the board. Less than 9 weeks now! Wow!!!
I only managed to get 4 hours of sleep last night. Somehow I have to make it through 5 more hours of work today and the hour of doctor ordered swim time after that. I'm hoping to be hungry for Indian food for my belated bday dinner tonight, then I'll crash
I'm starting to freak out. We are BROKE again this month, so no hope of buying a thing, which means I can't even start collecting the birth supplies, diapers, covers, ect that I need until next month and I don't even know how we are going to afford it then. ACK!!! This baby had better not come early.
Everyone is so busy getting ready!
I need to do some stuff too, but I'm so tired. Painted a wall in the living room yesterday and it looks great and feels so much homier.
And I just got the call from the midwifery and I passed my GTT!:
Last time I didn't and I passed the 3 hour but it was a horrendous experience where I was so nauseous I had to lie down shivering the whole time, wasn't allowed to nap, and told if I did throw up I'd just have to drink it again or do it later. So glad I don't have to!
I am very low in iron (I wasn't last time they checked and probably why I'm so tired) so I need to get some iron. Does anyone have one they would recommend for a slightly nauseous person? I hear great things about Floradix but not sure how my stomach would feel about the taste- is it gross?
My M/Ws made my appt to check and see if my marginal previa has improved. That's next week. Fingers crossed.
Poor Dh is laid up with a tooth abcess which seems to be so bad it is causing vomiting. We are off the the specialist this PM.
Happy birthday to your DD, Wombatclay!
Floradix is the best possible iron supplement and it doesn't taste bad or cause nausea. I'm taking some brand...Nature's Way I think...of chewable iron and it does seem to make me nauseous, but then again it's hard to tell since I'm always nauseous.
I don't like the aftertaste of Floradix, but it is much better mixed with a little orange juice.
So sorry about the $ situation! DH just got his hours cut back at work, so we are headed for some uncertain times ourselves. No more eating out or non-necessity purchases... except for my belated bday Indian food dinner, lol! I neeeeeeed that!
Spring Sun: what an amazing photo! Thanks for sharing
And Happy Birthday to SunShynBaby! :
All is well here! I'm slowing down and starting to really feel pregnant. I don't think I've started nesting yet, but maybe my dh has... He has started to make ambitious lists of what he wants to get done each weekend and it took me most of today just to recover from everything we accomplished last weekend!
After gaining no weight in the 3 weeks before my 29 week appointment, we went on vacation to CA to see my fam, eat, and not do much any work. This did the trick, weight wise. In two weeks time, I gained 5 pounds! Crazy for me! I'm also anemic and taking "blood builder". I'm not nauseous, for what it's worth. I've been sleeping a lot. No really A LOT! Oh and I had a crazy dream last night where my baby kind of pressed up against the skin of my belly and I could see her? face and play with her (or him). Baby even held on to my fingers. A really neat dream in a bizarre kind of way.
Hope everyone has a great week!
I'm taking the 3 hour GTT tomorrow and trying hard to think positively. If I fail that test, I'll need to at least do some co-care to try to get it under control, and I might even have to completely transfer care from my HB midwife. : Fortunately she made contact with a local OB who is sort of her unofficial back up, who is willing to see me next week just in case (and she's covered by my insurance, so the silver lining is that if I have to transfer care I guess my financial picture will be looking up )
I've had crazy miserable insomnia lately. I just can't get comfortable, relax, and turn off and then I'm waking up a million times a night to pee : I'm now remembering how during the third trimester with DD I was staying up until 2 or 3 am and sleeping until 10 or later in the morning. I'm fearing that soon DD and I will BOTH be doing that She goes to bed with DH and I, and she'll happily go to bed and wake up later and later and later, but shifting her earlier is nearly impossible (she must be mine ).
Also, my back up support person for DD is moving in July, so she's out now. Meanwhile my primary support person for DD will be out of town August 2-7 (I'm due Aug 13 and DD came at 38 weeks), so I really need a back up and perhaps a secondary back up.
A friend recently approached me about doing a shower in late June or early July. So, we're talking about going to Target tomorrow between blood draws for my GTT and doing a registry. I started one today at thethingsIwant too.
Hugs Talula! Is it mostly diaper stuff you need? Have you tried Freecycle or Craigslist or the mdc ISO/fairy forum? I got a ton of cloth dipes through Freecycle a few years ago and see thm every now and then. There are also organizations like Miracle Diapers and Lend a Hand that provide free cloth diapering kits to families in need... check the diapering forum and the finding your tribe forums since I'm sure there are several organizations I don't know about! Or maybe a thrift store outing for felted sweaters/XXXL polar fleece tops and cotton towels that could be turned into fitteds, prefolds, and covers?
Birth supplies would be trickier, but again maybe freecycle or a crisis prenancy center/planned parenthood office would have ideas? In my town there is a free clinic for people without health insurance and they offer low cost medical supplies as well as general care... so depending on what you needed there could be something similar in your town?
I hope things turn a corner for you soon! It's no fun being over the edge like that.
Happy birthday (belated) and hope the indian food is yummy!
Good luck on the GTT... finger's crossed that all is well.
No it's birth supplies mostly. I know that miracle diapers exist (actually, I knew the person who started it from a live journal cloth community....I've even donated to them before) but it's actually covers that I need, I already have some infant prefolds and a handful of infant sized fitteds. But the stash has been thinned out a lot after lending it to a friend and my second child going through it...I could really use some more fitteds...I'm planning on buying 12 kissaluvs.
Mostly I just need to buy the ginormous list of stuff on my midwife's list. I think all together it's probably not that expensive, but all that stuff on top of the birth pool....and the diapers...it's at least $300 worth of stuff in total I think.
I'm new here and I wouldn't even know how to begin to go about looking for something like that.
Stacey, great shot!
Sorry to everybody going throught the GTT. Good luck!
$$ troubles abound, right? I'm so glad that I have everything from DD, I really don't need much. Gave back the loaner glider we used (barely) for her, but I found this in cobalt blue microsuede locally for $85, baby daddy picked it up last night. Stoked!!
I'm sorry Talula. I hope you find a way to get what you need. If we weren't due the same month I'd gladly pass my stuff on to you.
I had a MW appointment today and she showed me how to feel the baby's head. I've tried before but wasn't pressing in far enough. When she showed me the baby picked her head up at the same time and it was amazing. It was like I was holding her little head in my hands I loved it!
Oh, thanks Jilian...I totally was going to say that if I go first (think I'm due quite early in the month but not positive), I'm happy to donate unused supplies if anybody comes up short. I still have a bag of gauze/needle-type stuff left over from DD's birth.
And that's so sweet about your baby's head! Just this morning I was making a mental note ( as if I'll remember) to ask the mw next appointment to help me distinguish baby's parts.
Tulula-your midwife should have a bunch of supplies that mothers give her back after they do not use them. Have you asked? I know our midwife is collecting a bunch of stuff for us.
Talk to your midwife, most of the stuff on supply lists are not often needed and negotiable.
She knows my situation. She did give me some chux pads, though I'll need to buy some more.
Here is the list, maybe you guys can suggest where to get this stuff inexpensively? I know we can squeeze out the money somehow. Also, I can cut out the birth pool or buy a cheap one. My midwife has these huge black rubbermaid tubs...which I'd rather not birth in but it's better than nothing. There is also the good ol' fishy pool, but I really want a La Bassine. Considering it's my last birth, my only homebirth, and we're already shelling out four grand for the midwife, it seemed like maybe not the right place to be frugal If I'm going for the birth of my dreams I may as well get my fancy pool. Plus it's not like I can't reuse the thing for my kids to play in or something.
Anyway here is the list (I am omitting anything I already have).
chux pads (need 1 more bag)
postpartum pads for me (either I need to buy like 2-3 more heavy flow cloth
pads plus 2 liners each or I need to buy a few boxes of disposables)
2 large bottles of hydrogen peroxide (I could probably skip this, but it's cheap anyway. I have one bottle and it says it's just for removing stains, which I don't care about that much, esp on cheapo sheets I'm going to get at a thrift sore or Wal mart for the birth).
2 large flannel backed plastic tablecloths, large rectangle (I assume this is also for preventing stains? I can get a $1 shower curtain at Wal Mart instead of this)
1 box 4x4 sterile gauze pads
1 digital thermometer (I *think* I have a BBT thermometer leftover from TTC....somewhere around here)
1 box bendable straws (this is just for me drinking in labor...I can skip this too or just get a $1 box of them)
1 small bottle of olive oil
1 box Kleenex
Nursing pads
3 bottles of electrolyte drink (I'll definitely be buying this, and that's not too expensive)
Juices/food for the birth....uh, I vomit a lot (HG plus I always ralph in labor) so this is going to be like....smoothies and that's it. Maybe some fruit.
16 oz pop top water bottle
50 ft garden hose for draining birth pool (I actually think I am going to get an aquarium hose as recommended in the homebirth sticky about waterbirth supplies. They run about $10 to $20. I'll need a faucet adapter too).
6-8 cotton/flannel receiving blankets, the thin inexpensive kind. This one is listed as important and I don't get why? I really don't like the flannel receiving blankets. I plan on buying receiving blankets anyway though since my blanket stash is running a bit low.
2-3 cotton knit newborn hats. I really think one is enough here, JMO. Especially for a birth in the dead of summer.
Diapers are listed, and I just need like 12 kissaluvs and 4-6 covers. I wanted some wool but I think I'll just get all PUL, like Thirsties or Bummis.
2 sets of sheets. This I will get at a thrift store or Wal Mart.
6 towels. Another thing I will buy el cheapo at Wal Mart.
8-10 wash cloths or clean rags (do I really need that many?)
Optional Supplements:
rescue remedy (how well does this work?)
Aconiate 30 or 200 C (another one I am wondering about)
the other supplements I have already (eccinacea) or cannot take (St. John's Wort tincture...bad for bipolar patients).
Arnica 30 or 200 C (for bleeding and brusing, this one I probably will invest in as I'm a bleeder and had a lot of brusing and swelling in my previous births).
Last but not least, I will need the actual birth pool if I don't use my midwife's.
***
As you can see, most of this stuff is not expensive, it's just when you combine it all together that it gets pricey.
Here is the list, maybe you guys can suggest where to get this stuff inexpensively? I know we can squeeze out the money somehow. Also, I can cut out the birth pool or buy a cheap one. My midwife has these huge black rubbermaid tubs...which I'd rather not birth in but it's better than nothing. There is also the good ol' fishy pool, but I really want a La Bassine. Considering it's my last birth, my only homebirth, and we're already shelling out four grand for the midwife, it seemed like maybe not the right place to be frugal If I'm going for the birth of my dreams I may as well get my fancy pool. Plus it's not like I can't reuse the thing for my kids to play in or something.
Anyway here is the list (I am omitting anything I already have).
chux pads (need 1 more bag)
postpartum pads for me (either I need to buy like 2-3 more heavy flow cloth
pads plus 2 liners each or I need to buy a few boxes of disposables)
2 large bottles of hydrogen peroxide (I could probably skip this, but it's cheap anyway. I have one bottle and it says it's just for removing stains, which I don't care about that much, esp on cheapo sheets I'm going to get at a thrift sore or Wal mart for the birth).
2 large flannel backed plastic tablecloths, large rectangle (I assume this is also for preventing stains? I can get a $1 shower curtain at Wal Mart instead of this)
1 box 4x4 sterile gauze pads
1 digital thermometer (I *think* I have a BBT thermometer leftover from TTC....somewhere around here)
1 box bendable straws (this is just for me drinking in labor...I can skip this too or just get a $1 box of them)
1 small bottle of olive oil
1 box Kleenex
Nursing pads
3 bottles of electrolyte drink (I'll definitely be buying this, and that's not too expensive)
Juices/food for the birth....uh, I vomit a lot (HG plus I always ralph in labor) so this is going to be like....smoothies and that's it. Maybe some fruit.
16 oz pop top water bottle
50 ft garden hose for draining birth pool (I actually think I am going to get an aquarium hose as recommended in the homebirth sticky about waterbirth supplies. They run about $10 to $20. I'll need a faucet adapter too).
6-8 cotton/flannel receiving blankets, the thin inexpensive kind. This one is listed as important and I don't get why? I really don't like the flannel receiving blankets. I plan on buying receiving blankets anyway though since my blanket stash is running a bit low.
I've had 7 HB's, ladt 6 UC. I know all about the midwife's list. Just b/c she put you need a box of guaze pads does not mean you really do. You can buy singles of most of this stuff at www.inhishands.com I just got my supplies today. After 7 births at home this is what I bought. The amount of chux is overkill. Olive oil is not needed for waterbirth. If she wants she can use whatever oil you have already at time of birth.
Delee suction
2 guaze pads
2 single gloves, large
4 large cux
2 smaller chux
Kiddie pool
2 plastic cord clamps
2 bendie straws
Scrub w/ iodine for dh's hands JIC
Foot imprinter w/ ink
Baby tape measure, paper, to put in baby book
$53 shipped
What I already have and will use from prior experience.
2-3 towels, just use our bath towels, they are brown
1 old fitted sheet for bed after birth, I will birth in tub
scissors
Depends, I got free from samples online. I use 2 usually, then go to regular paper pads, then onto cloth in a week, so 1-2 packs or 1 jumbo size Equate, cheap
Jar to put alcohol and boiled scissors until ready to use
Sheperd's Purse
1 baby hat, one is fine. You can cover baby's head w/ towel or blanket
Hose, never used anything, but a garden hose, newly bought or old one bleached out.
Hydrogen peroxide, used to bleach out stains once, used partial of 1 bottle
Never used
Baby blankets
Thermometer, have a BBT
Plastic or flannel backed plastic on bed
Oh, thanks!!! I'll definitely cross some of that off my list. I too thought the list was overkill for the most part.
Arnica 30 or 200 C $10 Whole Foods
=423.00
My friend's husband works at a hosptial and can get me gauze, chux pads, ect. I am just going to use some old sheets I already have. My friend also has flannel blankets, postpartum herbs, hats, and baby clothes to give me I will probably just get some old towels at a thrift store or use mine, I don't have any nice towels anymore so I don't care if they get stained. I already have old sheets to use. I really do not need straws or a water bottle.
Next month I am going to buy the most important 'big' stuff, the birth pool and accessories, my postpartum pads, and my nursing bras. The rest will just have to wait until July 30th. I never go early anyway so it's not that big of a deal....I hope.
I also am going to have a garage sale this week and see what I can scrounge up.
ETA: OMG duh! I have cloth wipes already to use as washclothes. Me = prego brain. I edited accordingly.
Thanks for the Floradix Recommendations.
I got some today and took my first dose. It's really not as bad-tasting as I thought it would be, and with a cranberry juice chaser it was great. No nausea either!
I wish I could afford some Floradix this month *sigh* See, this is why we put off TTC. We were going to wait until our finances were better. I was going to get a job.
Ironically, one of the jobs I applied for literally days before getting pregnant called back last week. I could be working at Kate Spade right now...
Talula, I'm sorry you're struggling so much with money. It's so frustrating to not be able to get everything you want all settled because of funding. Have you checked out diaperswappers for the kissaluvs and covers? I bought 2 lots of KL0's on diaperswappers (one 10 diapers and one 12), each for a good price (about $9 per diaper including shipping if I'm remembering right) and in good condition. As so many babies out grow the tiny sizes in no time, the used ones are often in EXCELLENT condition.
Well, I survived the 3 hour GTT. I didn't faint or puke either. I had a rough nauseaus and shaky first hour or so, but was doing much better by the second hour and by the third I was mostly just hungry. I kept leaving the lab and going back to Target to work with DH and DD on a small registry, which was a good distraction and kept me moving. The test wiped me out - I came home, ate, and took a nap, and I've been a bit queasy and off all day. I should get the results in 24-48 hours - hopefully we'll have the results for my appointment with the midwife tomorrow afternoon. In the mean time I totally spaced on making a week long food journal (I've just switched to every other week appointments), so now I'm trying to get one put together from memory.
A couple of friends have decided to do a shower for me, and so I'm trying to do a registry. I wanted to just do a simple registry at a local big box store and maybe in the end do an online one at amazon too. In the end I've done one at Target (local), one at BRU (we have a Toys R Us close by and I'm trying to stick to things available there), and one at thethingsIwant that lists a handful of things I really want (most of which can be bought locally, just not at the big box stores). I seem to over complicate everything Any comments on the registries welcome. I'll add a handful of items to them, but not much.
