She was born at 35+4 on Saturday at 10:11 am. I woke at 5am with leaking water, contractions started soon after. My m/w arrived at 7, we left for the hospital at 8 (an hour away) checked in at nine. I was at a 4, with contrax 4 min apart, nothing too major. I went pee, then BAM had two really bad contractions, another that took my breath away (big sign for me) and felt the urge to push with the next one. The doctor didn't even make it and she was born into the nurses hands. Really easy birth actually. She was 6lbs 13 oz at birth (they kept asking me if my dates were right)

She was fine for the first two hours, even tried latching on a bit, then starting having retractions and turned blue at about noon. They called a mobile NICU unit to come from the city an hour away and they transported her, along with dh, to the NICU here in Portland. I was able to be released only 3 hours after birth and my SIL drove me here to be with her. Because I'm discharged I have to stay at a friends, but I can be with her all day.

She didn't respond well to the CPAP, so had been intubated since late Saturday night. Her respirations are really high still, but they were able to lower her O2 levels to about 35-40 (we breathe 21%) She is up and down, but seems to be getting better slowly, although I don't know if they will take out the ventilator today or not.

So, keep her in your prayers and thoughts, it's been a really rough weekend.

*Fire...can't get on RM from the hosp. comp, will update you guys more later.

Oh CONGRATULATIONS Jillybeans!! I just cannot wait to see pictures of your brand new baby girl!! Everything definitely sounds soo stressful right now for you all , but it also sounds like that baby is on the right track & will be breathing fine & then home in no time. : Go Norah, go! We need a cheerleader smiley.

My own dd was born at 35 weeks & was 6lbs 12oz. Norah probably would have been a super chunk at full term! She's a super chunk for 35 weeks!

Congratulations on the birth of little Norah!
::::::::::
You and the baby are in my thoughts -- i'm sure that she'll soon be breathing great on her own.

(I love Norah by the way -- if this little boy was a girl, her name would have been Elinor, and we would call her Nora. I'm saving that name in case the next babe is a girl!)

Spiralshell -- Mama to David Nathaniel, born October 2009. And so you see I have come to doubt all that I once held as true. I stand alone without belief, the only truth I know is you.

Congratulations! Thank you for calling me!!

Kate had transient tachyepenia(sp) (rapid breathing) after she was born (which you know was very fast like Norah) and it was resolved by day 3, so hopefully her breathing will calm down a little as she gets used to the transition!

Jilly! Thanks for the update! I'm glad you found a way to get to us on RM! I'm praying for Norah. Sounds like a little bit of a rough start, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she can breathe on her own soon. I'm sure this is all scary! You beat all of us, though. I *think* Norah is the first October baby!

Congratulations and keep us updated when you can. We are all thinking of you.
