i wanted to say thank you all very much!

my ob told me something today. last month, she assisted at a c-section for a stillbirth and the ONLY thing they found wrong was a knot in the cord. she said that we could have had the same outcome with amelia! that scared me and made me thankful for her even more.

the NICU staff seems to think 3 weeks will be her go home time. she has zero interest in sucking right now so we are going to have to work on that. she is on the nasal canula, but her retractions are back a little. we got to hold her for about 1/2 hr. earlier and we were so thrilled. dh took pics, i'll post them later!

hugs everyone and thank you for all the kind words. the next 3 weeks are gonna be tough!

I'm so glad you got to hold her! I'm sure she will soon learn to suck -- in the meantime I hope you get to hold her more and more each day. Hang in there and soon you will be home.

Jen-That knot is definitely scary! Maybe that is why she needed to get out early. I'm praying for her continued progress.

argh nicu time sucks
but hopefully they are wrong about the time
they told us 4wks with callum and he was out in less than 2!
he had that darn lack of sucking reflex too (getting him to latch took so long - 3mths - went through 3 lactation consultants)
anyhow, hopefully you've got a blanket or two to help cover the isolette a bit from the lights and lots and lots of books and magazines.

she survived a knot in that cord, i really think with such a mighty girl she won't stand for being in the nicu for 3wks.

kick some butt amelia, get out of the nicu soon. hang in there, jen. being a nicu mama is far from ideal but maybe bring your mp3 player with speakers and play gentle music for her as well (i had about 50 enya songs i played at a low volume for callum and did the blanket thing to try and give him a break from hearing all the other carrying on in the nicu.

thinking of you!

mama to callum (april 8,07) and everett (sept 24,09) - blessed to be married to my life's love since '98. novaxnocirc.gif

Congratulations!!!
I hope the rest of the recovery goes quickly.
My son had a knot in his cord. I'll never forget that image in my head...they had just put him on my chest and the dr held up the cord showing this complete knot and said "you have a miracle baby". It was shocking, and as you said I was so thankful that everything was fine!

I am so glad that things turned out okay with her having that knot in her cord!! I really hope she proves the doctors wrong and is outta there earlier than that, but if she needs to be there for 3 weeks then she's in good hands. You are a strong momma. She's lucky to have you for a momma!!

Jen,

I can hardly believe how close our babies are.

Desmond was born 18 September at 11:24am, exactly 35 weeks gestation, 6 lb. 8.2 oz., 18 inches. We were so relieved that he was so big!

Good work growing such a big baby in such a short time...and making it to 35 weeks. Sorry you're having such an awful time in the hospital. Here's wishing you home soon with your sweet girl.
