Will post my birth story once these horrible afterpains go away. Why didn't I know about these!!
UPDATE W/ STORY:
Let me first say that I had no idea that I was going to have a baby on Saturday. I had no indications that anything was different. (In hindsight, I see a few signs). At about 2am, I started having contractions. I still wasn't sure if it was the real deal as I had no other indicators. They were about 10 minutes apart. I let DH sleep an hour more. At 3, I woke him.
We weren't quite sure if this was really it or not. We kept on looking in our birthing books, trying to figure it out. Finally, when they were about 5-8 minutes apart, we called the doula (about 5am). By the time that we had her come over 8:30, the contractions were pretty bad. We stayed at home for about an hour and then headed to the birth center. We arrived at 11am.
In attendance was my doula, the midwife, birth assistant, and my DH. I could have not asked for a better group of people to be with. They were all so amazing and added something special to the birth.
But, I have to admit, that the pain was horrendous. Yes, there were the contractions, but the hip/butt pain that I have suffered with the entire pregnancy made it horrific. Every contraction I had, my entire hip/butt/hamstring would sieze. Everyone was trying to massage me. I didn't think that I would be able to get through it.
But, by 2pm, it was time to push. I couldn't hold back anymore. I wasn't really listening to anyone, but I could hear them telling me that I had to keep on pushing. The thought of it going on any longer was frightening, so with all of my might, I just kept on pushing.
Dylan arrived at 2:55pm. I tore a tiny bit. 4 cosmetic stitches needed. They were no big deal though. He latched on like a champ and has been absolutely amazing. I wasn't expecting the horrible afterpains as I didn't think that I would have them as a first time mom. But, I do.....they are slowly getting better but I am living on Ibuprofen.
It was an amazing experience. I am so proud of myself for doing it. I can't believe that we have a baby now!
