We have had our baby names picked out for a long time now, but we have learned the hard way that we can't tell .... our first girl name was Lana with the middle name Lee because my middle name is Lee, and my step mom says 'that sounds like a porn star name' .... that totally ruined it for me. So now we aren't telling a soul, and when they ask why ... I tell them the above story. I can't stand when people say 'so and so's baby is named that' or 'that sounds like ___'. How rude! :

I'm soo excited about our baby names though. Very classic and not too common!

We have some picked out not sure which we will use though. Their all names from Beatles songs though so for Girls its Penelope, Molly, and Eleanor. For Boys its Desmond, Julian, and Maxwell. I'm sure someone will have something to say but oh well its not their baby!

With ds, we'd had Julien chosen from the start, but it was shot down by my family several times, so we ended up spending the better part of the pregnancy trying on different names. Finally, we came back to the original, deciding that WE like it, and that's what matters. Now, people compliment it all the time.

We've pretty much got names decided. DH would totally go for Beatles names! (Molly is on our list and we agreed that we'd someday have a tortise named Desmond, LOL)

That's the reason I don't wanna tell. My husband would love to discuss it with his family, but I have heard so many times comments from my family and friends which where similar "they named their child Ophelia! Can you believe it? Like that dead suicidal woman in the pond." "At least she was beautiful". Such comments just bother me. Maybe I am too cautious, and I know, that Ophelia is a beautiful charming first grader by now and no one has made bad comments about her name in a while, to the contrary.

Those are some awesome names! Hubby and I finally narrowed down to our top names - and 2 keep coming back. Madeline for a girl and Desmond for a boy (though I am still holding out for Connor).

We're 95% sure of our names- DH is 100% sure, but I still want to look through the name book one more time before I finally commit. My mom had some *nice* things to say about my 2nd son's name, so if it's possible to keep it quiet we will, but since we like to call the baby by name and my kids have loose lips, it'll probably be common knowledge before the child is born.

My husband and I had figured out a boys name when we were ttc, but never a girls name. When we found out we were pregnant I was talking to my brother and told him the name idea and he told me that it was stupid and he hated it, so I toyed around with some other names in my head, but if it is a boy we are sticking with it. The name is Gerlando Nicholas. Gerlando was my DH's grandfather's name. Nicholas is my DH's fathers name. I think it sounds good, so if it's a boy, it will be his name

Thanks. I really like Penelope, I want a Penny Lane. The babys last name would be Porter though so it might sound a little funny, but oh well. I Love Maxwell but he doesnt so it will probably be Desmond.

What! Not Michael! He wouldn't say such things about a name you chose would he?
Just kidding! I know him too well and I am sure he was very mean about it! Any girls names picked?

We have had the name Declan Liam picked out for a long time. Dex for short. Last name is very Irish too. Odds are lil pea will not look Irish at all since both my dh and I are adopted.

For a girl we previously decided on Amelia Piper. I hate the name Amelia (to the point that I actually named my dog that so we couldn't name a kid it) Problem is, no one calls the dog Amelia, we call her Millie. And Millie is the only nickname I like out of Amelia. So we compromised a bit and I want her name around the house to be Piper. That way she has the name Amelia for professional and legal stuff, but I don't have to call her that. I'm not sure if we are still going to go down this route. We need to talk about it some more.

I like Connor, too, but I would spell it "Conor." I also like:

Molly
Ruby
Ivy
Eva
Nora
Helena

Ben
Conor
(stumped on others!)

My sons' names are Hayes and Elisha, and my partner's daughter is Annie. Any suggestions?

We are considering Nora as well....although spelled Norah,

if it is a girl this time.

Our son has a very original name, we named him Kairo after the city in Egypt but spelled it with a K rather than a C because my husband is named Kristopher with a K. So now the pressure is on to think of some really original names. Heres our Ideas so far.

For a boy we are thinking of the name Oskar pronounced OH-Scar. My husband spent a few years in Austria and fell in love with that name. We figure if he wants to stand out he can, or he can go with the American pronunciation of Oscar. We really love the name Noam (a spin off of Noah, which is my dads name), or Liam for the middle name.

For a girl we have pretty much decided on Pele for the first name. Though we have several other's we are tossing around, we like Penelope and had that picked out last time if Kairo had been a girl. For middle names we like Norah (after my dad, his name is Noah and he is my favorite person in the world but hates his name LOL) or Caroline (my mom's name is Carol, and also hates her name!)

Still searching, any feedback welcome!

Heidi in Utah

@monarch

I love Oskar and Pele Although, I would associated a boy first with that name - thinking of the Brazilian soccer legend; but after knowing it stands for Penelope I can imagine it on a girl as well.

I've always been obsessed with Tori Amos, so im pulling Pele from her boys for Pele album..... Pele is the goddess of volcanoes or something, sounds cool to me. I wish we would have a red head than it would go perfectly.

For a boy we have Braden or Bradey but we're stuck on girls names. I like Avery or Evangeline but dh isn't big on either. We didn't decide on dd's name until we were about 3 weeks from her due date. I predict the same thing happening this time around if we have another girl!!

Yea, I know, Michael would NEVER say a name you picked out was terrible. Sometimes I wish he would just shutup.. haha... But I've learned to ignore him.. just smile and change the subject..

For a girl we are sure on the first name Isabella, thinking maybe Zoe as a middle name..

Ok, since starting the thread I have seen some pretty original names and no negative comments! Way to go group!

So now I feel comfortable sharing my names. I'm glad no one else has picked out the same names yet.

For a girl we have Clara Lee (Lee after my middle name, my mom, and gma) and for a boy we have Clarke Lee (Lee after my husbands first name).

My DH was so thrilled with Clarke when I first mentioned it because he likes Clark Kent, but as soon as I said I wanted to add the 'e' he was over it. Now he's trying to claim that he never liked it .... yea, whatever! I like Caeden, Cale, and Conlin also... but noo! I have searched and searched for other boy names that start with a 'c' that have a good meaning, to no avail. If he can't pick one of those four I say he's out of luck! I think he's just trying to give me a hard time.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who's already thinking about names! I was beginning to think I was a bit weird.

Early in our relationship, my spouse and I realized we had the same name picked out for a daughter: Sophia, so we're pretty set on Sophia Claire for a girl (Claire after my stepmother who passed away). We're also tossing around Aurora.

For boys, we're playing with Oscar and Brennan for now. We'll see ...

I LOVE the name Clark! I have been trying to talk my DH into Clark since we were pregnant with DS. He's having none of it.

Ellinor or Leonor are on the top of my list for girls. I just have to convince DH now.

I love Nicholas for a boy, or maybe Benjamin or Henry. I find myself drawn to more classic names.

I'm having trouble with this... I'm a teacher, and I (irrationally) can't reuse any name of any student I have ever had. Now, I've only taught two years so you would think it's not that bad... Only I teach a rotary subject: I've had over two hundred students in the past two years.
Needless to say, dh has given up suggesting names...

Kaya (29) + Laume (31) = ds Kanoa (8) and dd Zia (2)

Lol. I substitute taught for three school years, and I ran across a few names that I couldn't used because I remembered the students and how they were.

I say to go for classic names. Recent names are kind of off the wall .. but I bet you don't have any Eleanor or Clark's!
