OMG. I went to the dr. today. I gained ELEVEN LBS in THREE WEEKS. How is that even possible??? I had gained 7 in the first 20 weeks.. then 11 in 3 weeks. I can't believe it.

I had this happen. I gained 5 pounds in 20 weeks, then bam! 7 more pounds by week 23, which is 12 total. However, I think the baby does a huge growth spurt around 20 weeks or so, so the baby needs it. But its a bit shocking and a little bit unsettling.....

Today at my doc appt. I so bravely went where I should not have gone. After they took and recorded my weight I asked what my weight was when I first came in (about 8 weeks LMP). I GAINED 19 lbs..........................AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! I am attributing it to Placenta Previa and the lack of activity I can engage in and not the obsession with caramel I am having

Look at it this way - if you drank a bunch of water and didn't have a BM before the weight check, you could lose a pound or three just by visiting the restroom.

And, we are halfway through (or farther) our pregnancies. The babies themselves still have another 5-9 lbs. to gain, the placenta will keep getting bigger, your blood volume is still increasing. You'll need some extra fat stores to give the baby nourishment as you are breastfeeding. Don't sweat it - just eat healthy, drink lots of fluids, do some exercise every day and you and baby will be fine.

You too? I have so been craving caramels and I can't even imagine why.

As for weight gain, it could be any number of things that wouldn't be a cause for concern.
  • baby had a growth spurt
  • you were weighed before peeing rather than after this time
  • you forgot to take your shoes off before stepping on the scale
  • you just had a big meal before your appointment
  • the person moving the weights wasn't especially careful

I weighed myself this morning, and it appears I've gained 12lbs in 3-4 weeks. I've now gained a total of 20lbs.

I'm consoling myself that I weighed myself in the afternoon, after two bowls of cereal and a couple glasses of water and no bathroom time.... I wouldn't have possibly gained that much weight in 3 weeks.... right?!

With DS there were two separate months where I gained 10 pounds each month... I only gained 30 pounds total so I just seemed to get my weight gain all at once.

I haven't gained that much this time so I am waiting for it to come.

Anytime!

In my case I have to convince DH to make me some, because all the ones at the store have milk in them.

Well, I suppose I could make them myself, but I tend to burn caramel more than anything else. A candymaker I am just not.

I suspect that I have gained several pounds in the last two weeks purely out of stress from the move. I don't have a scale though and won't have an appointment for a bit so I can't verify but I just feel more sluggish and attribute it to getting a little heavier.

The vanilla ice cream drowned in hersheys syrup that I'm craving doesn't help, either

As of last week's appt (21 weeks) I haven't gained anything.: Please keep in mind that I did VOMIT for the first 20 weeks or so!

I did get some really fun big kicks in the "top" of my belly today!

I do not have to wonder why I am obsessed with caramel (duh! It's awesome), but I am not allowed to make more, not after I used the last batch as dipping sauce for apples, except for the leftovers which I just licked off my fingers.

I gain 9 pound between 14 and 19 weeks, then another 6 pounds between 19 and 13...oops! The weight gain slowed w/ DD as she got bigger and started pressing on my stomach (indigestion came back)- it sucked!

Youngfrankenstein -- you are hereby banned for not gaining 10 lbs like the rest of us. :nana:

Except, I don't really want to ban you because throwing up for 20 weeks is no fun at all. I'll send all further weight gain on my part over to your parts. Ok? Ok. :

I am so glad nobody's reply was "what the heck is wrong with you? PUT DOWN THE FORK!?" or something.

The nurse said if I gain 1 lb a week for the rest of the pregnancy, I will be at 34 overall.. not bad for a "normal" person, but since I started off overweight (technically, "obese") that 20 lbs would be good for me. Um... excuse me?? I am allowed to gain TWO MORE POUNDS for the rest of the pregnancy??

I don't intend to gain 100 lbs. With DD, I gained 32. I figure that isn't too bad....... of course, now I want caramel too, and with our insurance fiasco (see thread), all I want to do is stress eat! And we are moving on Monday- more stress!

I have gained less this pregnancy than with Ds so far I have only gained about 10 pounds. But by this time with ds I was already up 30 pounds!!! I gained a total of 60!!!!! But I also lost it fast with him but I also have craved mostly fruits and salads and have had hardly been hungery but this month there have been 3 birthday parties and everyone has sent cake home with me : so we will see but my next appointment what went on! I also have gotten a huge belly and think that I look more like 8 months!! But I am also smaller than I was with Ds at this time I really think that we only gain what we need to becaus the one month I gained about 5 pounds and eat less than I had in forever! So our bodies do what needs to be done and try not to worry about it. If it was cause for concern your OB or MW would mention it

I totally am the same way! Well, suddenly I gained 5 pounds in only a week! So now up to 18 and I swear sometimes it seems like you go through this spurt where even if you eat the same way, the food sticks for some reason...
Definitely a growth spurt here, I look pregnant now!

This is me EXACTLY! Of course I *did* go on vacation between those visits, so I'm blaming it on that, but I've decided I'm just not going to step on the scale at all here at home...I just don't need to know! I gained 33 pounds with both of my others, so I'm guessing it will be about the same this time. Oh well, it's just temporary and all for a good cause, right?

I have a half gallon of Edys cookie dough ice cream calling my name from the freezer... must..resist... but it is SO GOOD. :::

Fruit just sounds so unappealing compared to ice cream! I wish I had some caramel. I have to make hot fudge sauce and caramel at work. NO WONDER I gained so much! I have to taste it, of course... sometimes several times, on ice cream..
